Hi

i put a deposit on a 2007 Jaguar XKR, when i test drove the car i noticed the handbrake was not functioning. I did notice a whirring noise where it was trying to apply, a warning message was on the dash.

The dealer said no problem he will sort the issue before delivery. The car was over 300 miles away. The dealer informed me that he would sort this before delivery. He took it to his JLR mechanic and after a few days he said it was the motor, probably stripped gearing. He told the dealer he could not do it for a week and its a 10 hour job.

After finding other options we decided to gret the car delivered and i would book it into a Jaga specialist in Bromsgrove. The dealer spoke to the specialist and agreed i would book the car in and the dealer will pay all the costs, the dealer has been up front all along.

The dealer will also be sending the EPB motor down with the car. The dealer is also giving me a free 12 month warranty for the delay.

Is a motor change a 10 hour job?

regards

Mark

Quite possibly due to the position of it. Pretty sure the rear subframe has to be dropped to change it, so all in all, quite a big job for something relatively small.

Well i got the handbrake sorted with no drama. I took it to Northfield Jaguar specialist. They fitted the supplied, new handbrake motor and MOTd the car, all paid for by the dealer i bought the car from. The Labour was for 4 hours @ £75 p/h for the job and MOT.

I paid for a diff Oil change, just preventative, which cost me £70.

When my car reaches 60k i will be having the gearbox service.

Brilliant specialist, fair and they dont rip you off. This will be my go to place now.

Have similar probs with my XF,but only in downpour conditions, learnt to live with this occasional problem by running the car for 30 minutes or so til the unit dries out,a lot better than the £600 to replace it.Glyn G.
