Hi

My 1999 Xkr is in the local garage for the last month  due to a running issue.

The car has been stored for two years with just monthly start ups to keep engine moving .

It idles okay but splutters when accelerater pressed and can't be driven.

I changed fuel and fuel filter but it was the same .

The garage tried changing spark plugs , found one pump and its loom had burnt out , and 02 sensors needed changing..

All that work and cost and the car is still the same , well up to 2500 revs it's okay , mthen the same.

The garage is saying if the Denso sensors don't have gold in them they won't work ! British parts are saying that's nonsense !

Any help appreciated

hi

not too sure on the XKR, but on the S-type R, similar engine and ecu, there quite fussy and only the denso lamda sensors work correct, after market ones generally give lots of faults

cheers

Thanks Joe , ref got Denso ones from British parts who are very good and said they sell lots of these and no issues , so that makes sense.

I think it's something else , like injector or fuel blockage but garage didn't know where to go next as there no faults showing any longer !

Thanks for the input though , appreciated

Ideally you need to plug in with something like Jaguar IDS

looking at live data should tell if any sensors are not reading right and what are at fault

most sensors will cause limp mode and limit the revs and power, but it should still rev clean with a fault

could also be a bad ECU, there at that age where the capacitors are failing and can cause this sort of fault

There lots of place that can check these and repair in faulty, might be the first part I would eliminate if its stood, Ive had it a few times on various cars, had the caps replaced and its like new again

do you have any fault codes?

cheers

The garage is  a "Jaguar specialist " and have a fault reader ( not sure what type )

They identified faults initially with the pump and 02 sensors  which is why they were changed.

Since the change there are no faults now , they may be a specialist but they don't know how what to do .

They use a separate company for in-depth advice , with Jaguar trained and certificates engineers , but they are telling them if there's no good in the new 02 sensors , then they won't work . So the garage is now saying they can't do anything more ! It's a bit frustrating !
