Good evening,

I have a 3.0 D Prem Lux XF – 2010 (86000 mls), through the family, we have had it from new.

I have had a few of the electrical gremlins and a few suspension issues at MOTs but nothing too extreme. I have had the cambelt changed but not the serpentine belt.

It drives very well though does have a “washer coolant low” error on every start – I assume a faulty sensor to be changed at the next service.

The paintwork needs some attention – the OSF bumper has rubbed onto the wing and there is a little rust appearing, a ten year old bump repair to the boot lid needs a repaint and there are numerous door dings along both sides. I have been quoted £2,000 to fully repair and repaint both sides and the boot lid.

The DPF gives me the occasional yellow warning but clears itself on a run. I assume that at some point this will need addressing.

So, my question is do I invest £2,000 and keep the car, or accept it is old (13 years) and will drain my finances more and more.

I assume that with the door dings etc, the p/e value would be low and I would need to find significant funds for something similar.

The car is lovely to drive and I cannot think of a decent replacement at a reasonable cost, so am erring towards the repaint and continual upkeep.

Thanks

Hi JXF

I'm in a similar position. 2011 XF S. Just had a DPF removal, AC regas, replacement Lenses, New Screen & wipers as it was pitted.  4 New P Zeros.

It's 98k now & due a belt replacement a full service. Plus AC is intermittent due to a senser sticking. Do I do it?

I've decided yes as I know the car. That work will be around a thousand pounds & to get a car I trust I'd imagine I'd have to put another 5k to 7k or opt for a new PCP.

So keep the car with say a 3-5yr plan to swap it then.

Ps I'm having a remap as well so that's another £300.

Thanks, I think I agree. New tyres and new headlamp too.

I will look to tidy up the paintwork and hope for a few trouble free years.

You say you had the DPF removed - does that meet MOT regs?
