Hi,

My car is a jaguar s-type diesel V6 2.7 2008
The other day the Steering lock wouldn't engage. so the car wouldn't start. i pulled the key back out, reinserted the key, and the car started.
No problems for few days after.
I then needed to swop for a new key fob cover, still using the same circuit board in the new key fob. all the buttons worked fine. but the Steering lock wouldn't engage again.
I thought i'd start by recharging the battery over night. battery seems okay.
i did do a scan using my iCarsoft LR II Automotive Diagnostic. which stated SCP (J1850) invalid data from the steering column lock control module.  i cleared the code. and after doing a another scan, it hasn't come back. the other code was B1600 passive anti theft system ignition key transponder signal is not received.
would this be the key having the problem?
If so. is there a softway kit i could buy my self to fix this?

Grateful if someone could place me in the right direction.
Many Thanks.

Mark.

There is a second electronic device within the key fob! This is 'powered' by the car when the key is inserted. The original key must be completely dismantled to get at this, it is shaped like a pill. I hope you haven't disposed of the original key yet.
