Jag S type 2000 3 lt.

All electrics work but engine starter will not crank. Had been standing for two months but I have charged batter fully. Starter was working fine before.

Earth and connections to battery seem fine (less that 0.1 ohms)  I have repeatedly moved the gear lever into park to make sure cut off switch is engaged...

Any advice / ideas.

Are you getting power to the starter? Had a similar problem with my Xj with the same engine and it was a dirty terminal at the starter. Also if you have a 'Willing Assistant ' see if the solenoid is clicking when you try to start it.

Try placing the gear lever in neutral as it is also possible to start between neutral and park. The interlock may be suspect in park mode.

Could be the solenoid Steve. Are you hearing a click? Took the starter off mine and annoyingly it worked perfectly on the bench. Been fine ever since.
