Evening All,

I have a 2006 XK 4.2 convertible which has the usual infotainment screen, everything works as it should, but the audio is limited to radio & CD only.

My question: Is there anyway to stream music from my phone through the bluetooth connection which the car does have but right now it only works to make & receive calls. Have any fellow members acheived streaming with their XK using an aftermarket device suitable for the XK (X150) ?

Hi Paul, with the early (2006) X-150, it is relatively simple to add Apple CarPlay / Android Auto as a feature. There is a simple kit that plugs into the "Aux" port in the centre console. Search for people like Cartronics or the Jag Wrangler to seek out more information.

Good Evening Jim,

Thanks for your comment, very interesting.

So without any need to touch the infotainment screen and systems are you saying that there is an add on component that plugs into the "Aux" port in the centre console?

By the way Jim, forgive my ignorance but where in the centre console do i find the "Aux" port?

Cheers Paul.

Hi Paul, yes the kit is a simple plug in and set up. Cartronics are in Surrey, which should be relatively close to you from Essex and you can simply email them as a kick-off to get their advice and a cost.  The Cartronics link is below:

The Aux port is under the lid of the centre cubby, beside the "dummy slot" to insert the key fob.

Post back your thoughts / experience once you find out more for your car.

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for elaborating my options for streaming music from my android phone, before i contact cartronics thought i would check my Aux port as you mentioned it was beside the dummy slot for the key fob, however it doesnt seem to be there, please see the picture.

Am i looking in the right place Jim?

I don't think that all X150 models had the extra inputs ?

My memory isn't what it was, but I think cars equipped with 'Premium Sound' had an extra panel in the armrest that has a USB input (for a memory stick with music on it) and a 30 pin I-POD connector ( don't think it has a 3.5 mm stereo input socket, unlike the XF)

If you car doesn't have this option, there are possibly some aftermarket options available that will be fairly expensive.

The cheap way to do it is to get one of the widely and cheaply available FM transmitters ?

They will allow you to stream music from your phone to the device (many also have a USB input to plug in a memory stick loaded with music, SD card slot for the same purpose and AUX input socket that could be used to connect to the headphone output of your phone)

The device will then output your music on a selectable FM frequency, you then just have to tune in a spare FM station to the matching frequency on the cars original audio unit.

The quality of the results can vary, if you are in an area with very good FM reception, it can be tricky to find a frequency that doesn't get interference from nearby broadcast stations.

These are the type of thing:

I have tried several different ones with varying degrees of success, strangely the best results were from one of the cheaper ones available.

Looks too cheap to work but seemed OK in my X350 XJR.

This is only to show the version, I just found a seller with quick delivery and decent feedback.
