Jaguar S Type Remote Frequency

I have a 2005 SType 2.5V6 that was imported from Japan in 2019

i saw in the club magazine a nifty electronic module that allows the door mirrors to close on remote key double locking for cars with existing manual folding mirrors

I bought the module for £30 and have fitted it, but it doesn’t work. I’m pretty sure it’s because the remote locking works on a frequency for the Far Eastern market which is lower than the 433Mhz used in Europe

does anyone know if it’s possible to reprogram or change components to achieve the European remote fob spec?

thanks in anticipation

Hi Julian, a bit confused by your post. You indicate that your S-Type has existing "manual" folding mirrors. But, if the mirrors don't have electric motors in the first place, how would the addition of a module make them want to fold on the press of a button?

Perhaps you mean that your existing mirrors DO have electric motors and the folding is accomplished manually by pressing an interior button? I am sure folks out in JOC world will know more, but I thought on cars with electric mirrors that did not fold automatically in on pressing the fob, then the trick was to hold the fob lock button for an additional few seconds and that caused to mirrors to fold in, and then fold out automatically on unlocking, whereas automatically folding mirrors could be folded in by using the interior button(s) and they would remain folded inwards even when the car is unlocked on the fob button. This allows the mirrors to be folded inwards and remain so until you choose to fold them out and thereby allow parking in tight spaces - such as a garage.

As for a frequency change, that would probably require a change to the receiver in the module to work on UK frequencies and for that you need someone like Cartronics or similar.

Thank you

apologies, you’re right, I can fold the mirrors by manually pressing the button on the drivers door panel.

i saw an article in the JEC magazine which described the install for this unit which makes the mirrors fold using the double remote lock, and for £30 it seemed like a worthwhile project

Sadly on my car the remote fob locking has no effect on the mirrors

I’ve found the part number for the UK driver door module that operates at 433Mhz but I’m now guessing I’d need new keys that I probably would be able to programme myself!

what started out as a little project is turning into my HS2!

hi

If the doors are locking and deadlocking it should work

but I'm sure most japan models dont have deadlocking and the module you bought uses the dead locking pulse to lock the doors

I've made a few of these power fold locking modules and have all the instructions, but if your car does not have deadlocks it may not work

if your car has deadlocks it should work, the frequency of the remote is irrelavent, as it just uses signals to the door locks to operate the powerfold module, also remotes on all s-type can only be programed with software, Jaguar IDS/SDD, theres no manual procedure to program them.

deadlocks is not easy to retrofit

cheers

Thanks Joe

my car locks twice with the key fob, on the second press what I believe is the deadlock on the internal door handles are latched closed, which I thought was deadlocking……but maybe not!

i wondered if the frequency was a red herring, the article in the August JEC magazine showed that this module works and I’ve followed the same install, but it’s on a uk car

I bench tested the unit and the relay latches and is held which appears ok

this is the second unit I’ve tried and although there is a possibility that there’s a batch error but unlikely

Hi Jo

just taken a look at the car and on the second press of the remote lock button the internal door handle latches close

the handbook (which I’m guessing isn’t original as it’s in English) describes the system as having central locking but there’s no mention of double pressing the remote lock button

Thanks Joe

Is there anywhere I can find out the spec differences?

Would you say that the double locking on my car is ‘deadlocking’ which would generate the pulse to fire the relay?

Hi Julian, I believe when the car deadlocks on the second press of the key fob, it will beep at you (once), as well as you will hear a mechanical "clunk" from inside the car as the deadlock engages. If it doesn't do either of those, then you don't have the deadlock option.

In terms of determining the spec of your vehicle, you would need to find a friendly person with access to the vehicle build records at Jaguar cars. These can tell you exactly what elements your car had at newbuild. Not sure if anyone on the JOC has that access.

Thank you

there isn’t a beep on the second dress but there is an internal clunk as the lock  latches close!

it would be good to try to find the original build spec, I’ll do some digging

I’m trying to find a build specification for my car, does anyone know if any S Types were actually  manufactured in Japan?

Just for info, after discussion with JLR they agreed the car was UK built then exported to Japan.

a helpful chap then sent me the original build specification for the car

Hi

Yes all the S-type were manuafactured in the Uk

Just Japan ones had different spec,

I dont think they were loaded with as much stuff as uk ones

It tells you the build spec when you plug in to Jaguar IDS/SDD

cheers

Joe
