S-Type R, how to replace the large navigation / radio screen

Hi there,

I have a 2003 S-Type R that has the large touch screen navigation / radio screen, but I'm wanting to upgrade to a modern double din unit that has bluetooth etc. Can anyone offer advice on how to do this please?

There is a kit for about 500 quid, details can be found on the forum. A smaller system for MP3/BT inputs can also be found.

The alternatives are non starters due to the control bus system.

The problem for us was just the nav system, but Igo on a 7" tablet on a sticky rubber mount above the dash sorted that. The standard radio / CD player, Viva voice  etc was good enough for us.

Personally I would leave well alone. On my X Type I fitted one of these in the Cigarette lighter and can now make and receive calls as well as play spotify on the car system for less than £20 🙂

I can already make and receive calls with the original BTsystem along with voice control, it is only the outdated and clapped out Nav system that doesn't work.

Thank you very much for your message.

I am certainly interested in replacing the unit if it's not too much hassle though I'll have to wait to be able to spend that kind of money on something that's really a luxury. I'm not bothered about the navigation system as I use my phone for that anyway.

What should I search for to find details on the kit?

Thank you for your message.

I would like to get a new unit in place in the long term but for now I'd just like a way to send / receive calls and hopefully play my music from my phone. 

I've just ordered the plug in unit you suggested so hopefully that will help.

The best looking one and least glitchy one is Jagdroid by far, superb.

oe look and all the oe features still work, android 13 and fully updateable as new android version come out, you can do everything you want on your phone in the car, with reverse cameras and android assistant or gemini, with google maps, best navigation, you can also add DAB and android auto.

got one in mine for over 7 years now and its great.
