Hello anyone and thank you in advance.   i have always owned Jags.  love them.  my latest 2009 xk coup has been great!  Only 55K miles today.  First the luggage hatch would not lock.  Nothing in the way of the latch and it closes snug but will not lock. Yes, I hear it engage and click with unlock.  A few days later, the fab stopped locking the doors.  then it worked again and now, not working again. Also, the car is not recognizing the fab recently and asking me to insert it rather than just have it in the cabin.  I did check the lock 20 amp fuse.  It's fine but I replaced anyway. My guess. the fab is failing but I hate the dealership. Thank you for readying and thank you in advance for any advise.

Hi Mike, first point is the battery in the key fob, have you replaced it? Easy to do and only takes a few minutes - ensure the replacement battery is a good quality version as there are fakes out there. Secondly, have you tried your second key fob if you have one. Note though that if both fob batteries are the same vintage, you may need to also change that battery as well.

In terms of the "luggage hatch" i.e. boot or trunk, depending on your location, it is possible for the latch on the hatch opening to "get confused" - open the hatch and operate the lock mechanism whilst it is above your head to observe what's happening. You may need to physically reset it, using the round shaft of a suitable screwdriver to mimic the static latch in the body - which should be under a spring loaded plate. Set the latch mechanism so that it is definitely open and then close the lid / hatch.

Don't be tempted to purchase a replacement fob from the usual internet auction sites as they tend to not operate correctly with the Modern XK, you need a genuine Jaguar XK version and for that to be programmed to the car - which does mean an expensive talk with the dealer.

Hello, kind of you to reply.  I had tried several new batteries.  I thought I had a second key fob but seemingly it is lost. I tried a physical reset on the latch with a screw driver.  it is spring loaded and only in the open position. When I use a screw driver to bring it to the closed position, it springs open.  When I close the hatch it will not lock.  It is hitting the metal catch.  That is the least of my problems.  A few days after that started the fab was acting up. Sometimes working outside the car and clocking and sometime not.  Now, even when I manual press the outside lock on the door knob, the car will not lock.  It does lock from inside when the car is turned on.  Pulling my hair out.  lol.

Might be able to lock it with the emergency key in your fob. There is a little tiny panel you remove to put the emergency key in by the boot handle. I know that opens it so it might lock it
