Whats the fuel economy on your car around town? How does it compare with the manufacturers MPG figures and have you managed to get better economy than the manufacturers stated figures? Dont forget to state which model you have :)

1999 S type v8 88,000 miles Main dealer service history up to 70,000

I drive a mixture of motorway and A roads. I stop /start eight times on my 21 mile journey to work. A full tank according to the mileage remaining is 330. In reality its 280. I did pull the plugs the other day and discovered only three were correctly gaped, so I intend to do a proper service along with upgrading the timing chain set up.

S type 3.0 petrol. 86000 miles.

I average about 24 mpg according to car readout. This is mostly stop start to work. Have seen 30mpg on a good run on good roads, and not going slow. Not too bad I dont think.

My car was also dealer serviced up to 74000, checked plugs when I had car and the original plugs still in there. Totally shot. Changed and ran a lot better.

Best to see bills as well as just stamps in service book!!

2006 / 56 XK 4.2 (non supercharged) alloy bodied coupe.

Jaguar claim - Urban = 16.5 mpg / Extra Urban = 34.9 mpg / Combined = 25 mpg

My commute to work (outside of both rush hours) is 5.5 miles of 30 mph and 40 mph roads - the computer tells me I get 22 mpg.

My monthly trip from Stockton on Tees to Bristol is 260 miles with 250 miles of 70 mph roads (each way) - the computer tells me I get between 35 mpg and 40 mpg @ 70 mph on cruise control.

This drops dramatically if the car driven enthusiastically. Fortunately I can enjoy my Jaguar whilst driving within the speed limits.

I've had my S-Type V8 Sport coming on five weeks and have had a few good runs (Herefordshire to Dorset, Gloucestershire to Hampshire). The commute to work is a 32 mile round trip, initially A-roads but then on to the M50 M5. The computer has given me the following mpg 29, 28.3 and 31 which I've been quite impressed with especially as the car which it replaced, a 3.0 V6, had a combined MPG of 25.9 (manufacturers figures). :D

Since this post a couple of months back, I've been monitoring the mpg and have been returning an average of 26.5 mpg, but must admit I've been driving a lot harder than the first couple of months of ownership. In addition I think the 31 mpg quited above may have been recorded from the "instant mpg" on a particular lean trip instead of usage of a full tank. :(
