Bought a new XFs Portfolio in March, and i am experiencing bumps and thumps at the back when braking at low speeds.

Dealer identified the noise as fuel surge. I would have thought the all tanks would have baffles fitted to ovoid this problem.

Jaguar have said this is normal and meets their high standards. I say that it is not normal and does not meet MY high standards.

All this so far has been verbal, but i have asked Jaguar to put this in writing.

Have any other XF drivers noticed this problem?

thats crazy, you do not hear these noises in cheap cars so why should it be in a luxury brand!

Have you tried test driving another to see if you get the same noise?

further to the fuel surge problem. You are going to love this arragance.

Official letter from Jaguar received today.

Quote

When the fuel tank of the XF is filled to between 50 and 85 percent capacity there have been reported cases of a clunk noise enanating from the back of the car when stopping.

The fuel tank on the xf is not mounted rigidly to the chassis structure as some flex is required in order to cope with the varying fuel loads.

The noise being heard is caused by movement of fuel within the tank causing it to move slightly. End quote

How appalling. In other words it is a built in flaw but don't worry as long as you keep the tank less than half full

All future XF buyers beware as you won't find these pearls of wisdom in the glossy sales brochures.

Buy a XFs top of the range luxury saloon with a built in CLUNK at the rear at no extra cost.

What a sorry state of affairs that Jaguar do not care about. I am at a loss to understand their arragance

Hi George, Have you read any road test and reader reviews on the website from Autocar, What Car, Top Gear to see if they had this problem and as Steve has said try a test drive in another car,

really disappointed with response from Jaguar, hope you find a happy answer to this problem.

Thanks guys for the comments.

I have just written to Jaguar( Customer relations ) thats a good one! and advised them that i do not want explanations but i want action taken to rectify the problem.

They admit to the problem but do not appear to want to fix it. A this in a top of the range XFs portfolio bought in March11

Never expected this from Jaguar...............
