I managed to have an XKR with speed pack and black pack this morning for a bit of a test drive session and here is a short write up of my findings:

It's hard not to notice the Jaguar XKR even when you are indoors and you hear the car pull into the car park. I never normally hear cars arrive outside my office, but this one vibrated the windows with it's rumbled tune. When you first cast eyes on this black beauty she looks a real beast of a car, certainly a head turner and could charm any bloke to stop what he is doing on the spot! It's presense is enormous!

So, I had no choice but to get in and pop my bot on the spot and start her up.

Something that was not expected was how loud the car is when you give the pedal a blip - so growly loud, it made a few colleagues who were admiringly standing by jump outta their skins. Of course all the guys got real excited over that and I was kinda drooling!

My initial thought of the interior was quite good, looks well screwed together and a nice design. The only niggle with the interior was the air conditiing slightly whistles and the display controls were not very intuitive, so would take a bit of learning before getting used to it all. You can get away with the basic steering controls to get you by, but otherwise it would have been dangerous to try and control parts of the car using a touch screen alone.

During my first test drive my thoughts was the power this car gives when you don't really need it. The car is capable of 0-60 in 4.8 seconds from it's 5.0 Supercharged V8 and with a slight touch of the throttle she drops down and the power is instant, and you kind of end up doing it by accident which could be quite hair raising in the wet. In a straight line she power ups seamlesly and because of the supercharger it doesn't kick you in the back, but smooth consistant power through the range.

The drive and feel itself is quite good. The handling was tight, not much roll at all from hard cornering and a very comfortable position. The back seats have been proved worthless as you would struggle to fit any adult in the back comfortably even if they were a contortionist (an unfortunate colleague had to try it) and if you managed to get someone in, the front passenger would have no room whatseover.

So with the slight fling I had with this car, I can say that she is an amazing machine and a sexy looking beast, a real head-turner... not sure I'd take her home for good though, my wife and neighbours would probably move out. But well done Jaguar for beautiful car and extraordinary car making!

I wish to drive this New Jaguar XKR-S convertible roars out from Los Angeles Auto Show.Jaguar announced its brand new XKR-S convertible just one week before releasing it at the current LA Auto Show. The new drop-top version of the automaker's quickest and most effective model is bound to become the envy of collectors. Its high price tag puts it out of league for most people, and only 25 will be delivered to the U.S.

Agreed I think the xkr is a great car especially since 2011 onwards....the 2012 one is great and the interior improved....though the touch screen etc still remains cumbersome. But that didn't stop me from getting one... :-))
