Hi,

I have just bought an 'S' type from my father-in-law and the car is in mint condition. However, there are parts of the metallic wheels where there is a little 'pitting' and rust which is 'bubbling' - it's not a major problem as when I'm standing away from the car 6 - 7 feet or so it can't be seen. Nonetheless I wish to do something about it and I would prefer to do it myself as I'm very much a DIY person. Can anyone help - would appreciate it!

hi and welcome to the Jaguar Owners Club

You could sand these down, undercoat and spray these yourself. But you may find it will not looks as good as if you had them powder coated.. this costs about 45 a wheel.

Hi again,

If I decided to do it myself - would I sand down with emery paper ? and if so is there a rust resistant paint that I would use as a first coat ? - finally would Jaguar have the metallic colour used as naturally I would want the best match to show a great result. I should say I'm very good at DIY but have not tackled anything like this before and want to ensure that it's done right.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Alister

I did my own a few years ago with a friend who is a paint sprayer.

Its all in the prep to be honest, sanding it down to a fine wet and dry paper. Taping up the bits you do not want to paint properly and under coating, then painting the wheel then laquered.

You will need the paint code for the wheels from the dealer or off the net, I am not sure what the paint colour is to be honest.

Make sure you spray them in a dust free and warm garage.

Not sure the premade paints in a can will really do a nice job, i was lucky to have access to a proper spray gun.
