Hi there,

While approaching a roundabout doing about 50mph on a 60 limit my engine, abs and power steering cut out. It also brough up the orange light in the top left of the dash for the autobox failing. I managed to pull over and after turning the ignition on and off it started fine and turned the light out. The car then drove fine all of the way home.

This couldve been a lot worse if there had been any other cars around so I was wondering if I should be worried? Or does anyone have any suggestions of what it couldve been or any tips as how to make sure it doesnt happen again?

Cheers again,

Mark

Hi Mark, Has the car done this before or has it been recently serviced or any work carried out, I would check over for loose wiring, you could also check in the XJ part of the forum to see if any other owners have had similar problems, good luck.

Cheers Big Al.

This is the 1st time its happened and came as a shock.

I have had some work done on the centre console. I have had the head unit and the digital clock replaced. I have also noticed that the sport light on the dash doesnt light up when switched on and the button next to the gear stick doesnt light up either, so hopefully this will fix itself if I take it all apart again.

Hi Mark, How long ago was the work carried out, as you could contact the place that carried out the work, could be a loose wire that needs fixing, or earth wire needs securing, would not want the same happening again. Alan

Just a quick update.

I started to take apart the centre console to check for anything obvious and I notice the sport buttom loom hadnt been conected back up. I attached it and now the button works.

There was nothing else obviously loose so do you think this couldve cause the cut out?

It could have been the problem, but it has to be your decision, could be an idea to take the car back to who carried out the work, explain what happened and that the loom hadn't been connected, they may have missed something else, so may check it over free of charge, hopefully fault has been resolved, just take it easy in the next few weeks, good luck. Alan
