Hello all!

I recently became the extremely proud owner of a 1988 Jaguar Sovereign 3.6L. It's absolutely beautiful to look at, smooth as hell to drive and drenched in leather and walnut! My grandad had one for years, so as soon as I saw it I fell in love. However, there is a problem with the ABS, it thinks I'm skidding and makes some very interesting noises as a result!

It's booked into my local garage tomorrow so they can try and find out what the problem is, hopefully it's just a sensor or something but it could be more than the car is worth to repair it, which I'm not adverse to as I absolutely love the car, but it is rather worrying. Any help or advice from someone who knows about this or has heard about it before would be very much appreciated :-)

Happy driving Jag-lovers!

Welcome Lucas, always good to ask for an idea of the price of any repair, is the car serviced regularly? hopefully will just be a sensor, have you had any new brake pads or work done on the brakes also does your local garage service one or two particular makes or do they service any car, good luck with getting problem resolved.

Hi Al,

Thanks for the reply, it has been serviced regularly (FSH, which for an 88 is quite incredible I think!) and yes I'm certainly hoping it's only going to be something silly like a sensor or a fuse. Got it back last night and the garage said they've done all they can mechanically to try and solve the problem but no joy, so I've got her booked in with Jaguar on Wednesday so they can plug it into one of their computers and hopefully diagnose the problem - this is only costing £50 which I'm quite happy about!

Then, fingers crossed, if it's only something small I'll get the work done and enjoy driving it again!

Hi Lucas, Hopefully will be a cheap repair, this is the only trouble with cars today, is that they have to be connected to the diagnosis machine as everything is controlled by computers and electronics, good luck. :D

Hi Big Al,

Just an update for your/ anyone else's reference! Firstly, it's not a Daimler, it IS a jag XJ6. Second, I took it to Jag main dealer and they said it needed a new brake pressure kit, costing £450 inc fitting... ouch! Took it to my local garage and between then and waiting for a straight answer on how much cheaper they could do it for, it's fixed itself!

Found out the girl had been sat stagnant since 1998... so it must've thought there was something wrong when there wasn't.

Here's to crossing my fingers and hoping it stays fixed!

Thanks for your help mate

Hi Lucas, Thanks for the update, car looks good, I am sure it has sorted itself out if it had been sitting round for a long time, could be an idea to check the filters, fluids and oils and replace if necessary, good luck. :D
