Good evening ladies and gents,

Just some advice please?

As a previous Jag owner (X-type, 52 reg), I find myself about to buy an S Type, 07 plate. I love them but, as I had to get rid of my X Type due to a gearbox faliure, I am worried about the various owners reports that i am reading about the S Type. Am I being foolish in buying this car? I love it though!!!

I am buying this from a Jag dealer, they have looked after it from new, it has only 20k on the clock, and drives like new. I have been reassured by the sales guy that I will recieve a comprehensive warranty on the car for 12 months. They have paid for a years tax and put in narly half a tank of fuel for me.

I am worried about the DPF amongst other things........

Some owners websites say that they have had no problems while others say stay away. My heart says go ahead and buy it, my head isnt so sure.

Very grateful for any comments, Im due to pick this car up from the dealer on Tuesday.................

You don't say whether the S Type is manual or automatic.

I had auto's for many many years without any problems. Then I bought a manual X Type and had to spend over £1000 having the flywheel and clutch replaced.

I've now got an automatic S Type and wouldn't go back to a manual again.

As for DPF, you'll find that if you just potter around town all the time you may have problems. The car needs a good blast now and then to discharge the DPF and all should be fine.

Now I've given you an excuse to put your foot down!!!

You're buying this car from a Jaguar dealer, in which case the warranty will be the Jaguar warranty or should be which is 12 months and also gives you Jaguar care which is the AA's side of Jaguar. There are some loopholes in the Jaguar warranty, but you could always go back to the dealer under the trade descriptions act if the worst came to the worst.

:) Why not get the AA to look over the car, it's only about £80 and might give you peace of mind. I was taken in with faulty tyres and had to spend £600 to put things right, but I've enjoyed it since then

Best,

Alastair :)
