Hi all,

I'm Lee and live in Milton Keynes, l am 37 nearly 38 next month.. Let me tell you a little about myself and my Enthusiasm of Jaguar(s). Well it started with my dad, having owned a mk2 3.8 and a Mk10 4.2. Sorry haven't got any pictures.. I have also been in a Original Mk1 XJ when l was younger.

I am sadly unemployed due to being made redundant last year.. But my sole plan is to either treat myself to a XJ6 or XJ8, I wouldn't mind a XJ8 3.6 Sovereign or the beast of all the XJR. When l eventually get into employment l am going to save up and treat myself to one.

I have therefore come onto this owners club to obtain the necessary information and things to look out for when l start searching.. My budget would be around £1500. What kind of car could l get for that..?

I got my last 3 cars of eBay . The s type was 400 pounds less than book price for a privet sale and 1200 pounds less than if I had brought from a garage. Hope that’s some help.

Welcome to the Forum Lee, and I hope you are successful in finding employment soon and so satisfying you Jaguar ambition.

There is a minor flaw in your quest as an XJ8 3.6 Sovereign was never produced. The 3.6 engine was a six cylinder and available in the XJ40 body style of XJ6. I believe this engine was also available as an XJ40 body style XJR but this version was not supercharged and was subsequently updated with the 4.0 non supercharged six cylinder engine. From 1994 the body style was updated to the more curvacious X300, still with the six cylinder engine as 3.2, 4.0 litre and 4.0 litre supercharged XJR.

The XJ8 used a V8 engine in 3.2, 4.0 and 4.0 supercharged versions with the XJR using the latter engine and the body style being similar to the X300 (now known as X308). This body style and engine was available from 1997 to 2002 when it was replaced by the alloy bodied XJ range (X350).

All of the above XJ series cars now represent excellent value and whichever you choose I am sure you will not be disappointed.
