does any one know if it is possible to fit a bonnet mascot on a 2004 x type, there is not one on the at present , but i would like to fit one.

can the bonnet be drilled or do i need to change the bonnet

Hi just fitted one to mine, it needs to be the spring loaded type, if you open the bonnet and look at the underside you will see a circle cut out in the bonnet reinforcement just behind the latch, you need to find the centre of this and drill a pilot hole through, close the bonnet and open up the hole using increasing sized drill bits until the desired size is achieved (16mm for mine) B&Q sell large drill bits with a machined shank to fit a standard size drill chuck only takes about half an hour to do and looks fantastic :D

How legal are they? I noticed 'spring-loaded'... As I live in France (no, I'm not French!) I can see the French MOT people having a fit if I did fit one. Worth looking into though, because it looks dead good!

I have a gold coulored one fitted to my 2001 stype. Looks stunning turns peoples heads as I drive past. Worth fitting. Had mine off eBay.

I fancied one on my car but I have read elsewhere that it is illegal if the model was not originally sold with a mascot. Anyone have a definite answer on this?

Fitted to a leaper to mine , has now been through UK MOT, not a mention, apart from that looks good!! ; its the spring loaded type, Stopped last summer by the gendarmes out side Sables D'Olonne spot check (I was daft enough to go out on a Sunday afternoon, if you live in France you know what I mean) who checked it moves when pushed (not fixed) sent on my way no problems.

Too true I know what you mean! Officious, surly lot at the best of times... Looks as though they know what to look for, though, which makes a pleasant change. Usually they just throw their weight around without having a clue whether there's any reason to or not!

The spring loaded ones will pass a UK MOT and thus are legal. You may have to advise your insurance company.

We sell them at £76.59 + vat for an OE version. (Look great) !
