Hi all

How about setting up a list of recommended independent garages up and down the country.

I recommend:-

E & E Services MK Ltd, 114 Tanners Drive, Milton Keynes.

Colin

      Hello Colin, and everyone else.

A great idea to list and rate the various independent garages around the country. I have not yet used a garage for any of my four jags. As I am in NW London, I will probably try "the jag workshop .com", which is in the Mall, Ealing, and relatively close to me. Unless of course, anyone in JOC tells me otherwise. I also need someone to re-varnish the woodwork in my 420g, where someone prior to me stripped back to bare wood. A friend of mine recommended a guy called "Mark" in Kent who he had re-place his fuel tanks, re-place the auto gear box, and re-place the engine on his 420g. No idea if he does work on interiors. I only have his mobile number, and I am unsure whether he would appreciate me quoting that before I even meet him. I have been told he is known to the JOC however. Anyway, lets get these workers some sort of listing, and some sort of rating. It cannot be a bad thing.

               420g.

Hi All,

I have tried the guy in Northfield Birmingham for a recent pre-MOT check and MOT - and wouldn't hesitate to go back to him for all my future needs (Jag-related of course!).

Looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial servicing/repair relationship, not that I want the car to play up or go wrong of course!

Having felt the full force of rip off merchants, AKA Franchise dealers with my Aston (they are also Jaguar franchise) I am returning to the chap who always used to service my cars, and he has a very good repeutation in the area . He has promised to maintain my 2012 XJ Supersport with genuine Jaguar parts at a fraction of the cost of the franchise garage.

He is a decent chap, his name is  Chris Bament

He owns

Castle Hill Garage,

Castle Hill,

Ilfracombe,

North Devon,

Hi

I'm sure there must be a good one in Birmingham and would like to know if there is, I use Stratstone at the moment they are a main dealer.

John

I live in Sutton Coldfield and use a mobile mechanic, and have done for over 10 years.  Reliable and a lot cheaper than Stratsone.  Contact me if you would like me to make contact with him.

The best, and reasonably priced, Jaguar specialist in the Birmingham and West Midlands area is Northfield Garage, 1163 Bristol Road, Northfield, Birmingham, B31 2SL

The owner is Rob, he is very knowledgeable and helpful. I have used him for years for a variety of Jaguar models.

See:   http://www.jagsparesandrepairs.com/ for phone number etc.,

I've used these people for the last six years. Super service and a real interest in the car. They go the extra mile to keep costs down and will try to source decent used parts when appropriate.  Harwich is a small town and I guess they need to keep their customer base happy.

I must be the only JOC member in London. Unless you know differently. If anyone knows of any independent Jaguar garages in NW London, I would be grateful if anyone who sees this would post that knowledge here. I do not trust the corporations. Equally, I need to find a front radiator grill for my 1969, 420g. Please post any idea's here, or send me an e-mail. She looks so sad after some sod put a crease in the said front grill. Or if anyone knows of a gifted chrome worker who may repair the grill. Please don't be shy. A beautiful car needs support.

Hi Mark,

I was at the Classic Motor Show this year and there was a small display of repaired and re-chromed parts --- mainly for motor cycles as they can be carried around in a van -- but I was assured that they also did parts for cars.  It was called Ashford Chroming, and  you can look it up on the internet.  The quality of repair looked pretty good.

As the name indicates, the works is based in Ashford, Kent, and it could be near enough for you to visit, but is certainly worth a 'phone call. A Four Twenty certainly needs support, and bits must now be rare.

Good luck.

Peter.

Hi

I recently had an issue with my x type ( Fans staying on)- local garage tried but after five days gave up as they didn't have the knowledge /equipment.

Phoned JAGUTEK 22 Lancaster Way Business Park, Ely, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND, CB6 3NW.

What a great company - managed to take my car in same day and told me what was wrong and fixed it within 24hrs. Even better the first garage were going to charge me £650 to fit the wrong part and JAGUTEK fixed the problem with less than half the cost!

It is great to talk to a garage who know Jaguars inside out and you can have confidence in.

Welcome to the club, Donna.

And thanks for the info about independent garages,  for which many Mancunian Jaguar owners will be grateful.

Regards,

Peter.

That is useful to know, Kevin. I have written it down in my little notebook for useful information.

I used to know Stoke-on-Trent very well -- Shelton Steelworks, and I had my retirement "do" in Hanley.

Regards,

Peter.
