Hi, hello, very new to the site (three days), I have just bought a 1996 3.2 XJ6 Sovereign.Supplied with two genuine jag keys with the head insert on, BUT no remotes! I know that when I unlock the car I must put the key into the ignition & turn to position two, to cancel the alarm, no problem. Here's the problem, when locking the drivers door the alarm fails to beep once to arm, it then goes into secondary beeping after 20 seconds, followed by full alarm. It does this four or five times on the bounce, BUT the next attempt to lock is met by a single beep and all's well! what is happening? is there any value in scrapping the existing alarm system and replacing with a Toad Sterling Cat One alarm with two remotes supplied at an all in cost of £199? rather than buying remotes at £120 plus from jaguar? OR, have I failed to check, or turn something off inside the car that I don't know about yet. After all this is my very first cat. Any help would be gratefully received. Dave 8.

Hi David

Have yu looked at buying keys from a 3rd party source? There are some key programming services around that may be cheaper.

Problem is, if it doesnt work for you (both oem or 3rd party fobs) then you could be left with installing an aftermarket alarm system on top of the cost of the keys.

I believe the keys are original by wear and type, so I'm happy with them. I have found three cut wires in the boot/trunk that may be from a CD changer that appears to be missing. Somebody has taken the original radio out and fitted an aftermarket one by SEVIC model SBL0103MP4 which by the way is faulty, so have left the removable face off. The cut wires are 5 inches proud of the main cable harness beside the battery. No idea where from though at present. I need a complete wiring diagram to be able to diagnose problem. Also the mirrors & cigar lighters don't work but the fuses in the heel kick area are intact. Beginning to think I bought something from Friday 13th!! I might need a professional specialist to look at it because I can't find a haynes or bentley book to suit....AAHHHhhh.
