A good club could be a great club

Recommended Posts

What shame most members take time to read the posts but don't share information with members, you are not a real member unless you participate.

Members are asking for help and advice, whats the point of having a club if we don't help them.

As far as I know we do, :) there's a whole stack of information both technical and social on here if you take time to read it

I was referring to the posts, many readers so few replies, I was comparing to the Morgan owners (the boat not the car) ask a question there and the members rally round to solve it, I'v asked a couple of questions that I know other owners must have encountered, or is my car that unique??? only takes a few minutes to reply and it makes the site much more interesting.

Remember this is a newish VOLENTARY site if you go to the OFFICIAL Jaguar site you take your credit card in FIRST to buy the magazine etc as compulsory. This is run by a "Good Guy " who is making a nice informative site.

You want an instant answer then join the other people but it will cost you a LOT

Please don`t criticise some thing you know very little about

+1 Also some people join because they have a problem or want advice, when it is given, they never get back, so we do not know whether the problem or advice was useful, has to work two ways, enjoy the forum.

Unfortunately the non return with a thanks is very typical of some people and happens in a lot of other forums. A bit similar to the idiots who buy on eBay and then do not pay for the goods, Thats the same mentality. The forum is better off without these sort of PLEBS.

I must admit I have to side with Stan here, I've only been with the forum for a few months but am amazed at the number of views a post gets but next to no replies. I do appreciate that most people here don't have a mechanical knowledge to put the car right but I dare say there is a wealth of information which could be shared, even if knowledge is pulled together over a number of post.....?

Over the past months I have viewed many car related forums and unfortunately most are suffering with lack of posts. Some forums are so strictly moderated that they are very near closing. I am a member of the JDC forum and have given up posting as the moderation is so heavy that posts are not even posted. It does appear that forums that have a general conversation area without reference to vehicles seems to attract more posts. One car forum that I subscribe to has members that take great pleasure in correcting spelling and grammer of members, goes down like a ton of smelly stuuf with many. Piston Heads Forum section seems to be active on Jaguars.

Sign of the times due to the economic situation which aint getting any better folks!!!!!!!!!!

This pretty much sums up why I joined recently Alastair. Yes I'm still a noob here but I like what I see and over moderation is a killer in my personal experience (having built & run my own unrelated forum) so I think the more frequent posting mentioned here will happen...in time...

Hi MacSTR,

I'm amazed at your experience with other sites and can fully understand why a site might loose members, while I don't agree with text speak there's no need for that level of correction/moderation!

Is the Piston Heads Forum any good?

Best regards,

Dave

Yes PH is one other forum for cars that covers all types and makes. It does have a section for Jaguars which is very active and worth a visit.

I have to say I thought it was a little quiet compared to the Jap forums but I expected this as Jags are a bit less mainstream. On most forums new people get slated for posting before searching the site for an answer, but it keeps things flowing and gets conversations going, people can chat and then other bits of information come to light and can be shared, plus you feel like the club becomes a real community if you are in conversation with eachother and not just reading old posts.

I enjoy chatting with other Jaguar owners and believe that a Forum provides that opportunity. My conversations are not just about Jaguars, my conversations varies depending on the mode I am in at the time. But still I am discussing various topics with fellow Jaguar owners.
