Hi there everyone, i am looking at buying some lowering springs for the x-type, the ones i have my eye on are 230 pound eibach items that claim to lower ride height by 30-35mm front and 25-30mm rear, my question is will the springs alone actually reduce the ride height? or will i need to get lowering shocks too? And also if i did use the lowering springs but kept the standard shocks would i be risking damaging anything or making the ride unsafe?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Fabian.

Hey Fabian,

I got the Eibach kit about 6 months ago for my estate X-Type. Made a great improvement to the looks and handling of the car, with minimal ride discomfort. The springs can be fitted to the OEM shocks no problem but it would improve it if you got the sport/uprated shocks too. As my shocks needed replacing, I went for a set of uprated Bilstein units at the same time.

One thing I found with the Eibach springs is they lowered the back end of the car around 20mm lower than the front (looked like a dog with worms). I presume that the Eibach kit is to fit all X-Type estates therefore models with heavier engines may lower more evenly at the front. I have a 2.0 Diesel engine which is I imagine lighter than say the V6. Not sure if this would be the same for a sedan.

I got a litle fed up after a couple of months with the high front end and managed to obtain the front springs from Eibach that lowered it the same as the back (approx 35 mm all around). Looks great :-D
