I recently had the diff replaced on my 54 reg 2.7 S type diesel sport purchased second hand in March this year. It was replaced with a secondhand like for like unit. After picking up the car about 5 mins down the road, a warning light came up stating that there was a gearbox fault. There is no real problem in the operation of the box when driving and the warning was not there before I took the car in. I took to a Jag garage who connected it up to find the fault codes. I don't know what they were but they said it could be a problem with the box itself or with the ECU. It is to be investigated further this week.

I am not much of a techie and new to Jag ownership so I wonder if anyone has any comments to offer on the problem. It just seems a coincidence that the warning started after the work on the diff!

Peter,

You will need to have the OBD error code, although I have not been impressed with these codes, seems like Jaguar have a set of extra secrete codes or something that normal OBD cant read.

If you are in the Kent area I have a reader, (not full jag) but it might be just as easy to get it done at a local garage or buy (under £15) on E-bay.

That said if the car runs fine then I think its just showing a part mis-match and the ecm needs to be reset or something.

One point seems like it take 200mile drive for these things to settle sometimes according to Jaguar.

It would be nice to have a list of codes and what was actually required to cure the problem.

My phantom code is PO65E

Regards

Stan

Newbie maself and have a similar fault. 2.7d se Auto been running great the last 3 or so years. Had to turn off my ABS the other day due to the ABS constantly kicking in reducing power. Works fine now with no ABS. Car is booked in for Wednesday (non Jaguar Dealer) but has diagnostic kit to check it out.Think the sensors are not talking ?? Worried though as Gearbox Fault now displayed but no code. Turn off engine then restart and clears. Noticed heavy duty smoke threw the gears when giving it the "Gypsies Warning" and felt it has run a lot smoother. Turbo's replaced 30,000 or so miles ago. Surely not again ?? Just a wee tad worried !! :( Help and views much appreciated .........

You maybe interested to know that my problem was diagnosed as needing something called a mechatronic(?). Been in the garage for a month partly because a new torque converter has been lost by the courier company. Expensive job. Not good for a car with only 56k on the clock!!
