Had the yellow engine light pop up on the instrument cluster after disconnecting the battery and putting on a new replacement. So I hooked up a diagnostic tool to the plug under the dash below the steering wheel and got 1 fault code, P1000. Nothing else came up. I've read this is something to do with the engine ecu doing a reset check cycle or similar? Am I ok to erase and clear it off or is it likely to be another issue?any advice appreciated. Thanks.

50 views and no replies?lol! Well, I decided to delete the error code off and the engine light went away. I then went for a `spirited` drive and the light is back. So I am now trying the `5 starts/runs out` trick to see if the engine light turns itself off. I will report back (erm... to myself??lol!) once I have completed 5 or 6 journeys.

Nope, I get code 1000 with the reader and I have tried deleting it out, but the problem comes back. The car runs fine no problems but the engine light stays on. Going to try deleting it out, doing an oil/filter/airfilter and spark plug change, disconnect the battery for a few hours then get it back on and run it up to the petrol station, give it a full tank of super and a bottle of redex then give it a blat and see if thats helped. If not, going to have to take it to a specialist to get them to read the fault codes maybe they will bring something up I cant. Will report back after the weekend.

Dan,

I believe its the code to indicate that the car was unable to run all its sensors/monitors to check all its systems. I'm yet to find a fix though, although I shall keep looking. Maybe a trip to a garage or main dealer would be an idea if the problem persists. Hope this helps.

Hi Jonathan, and welcome to the Club.

Is there a message in the message display?  Is the car running OK?

If there is no indication of what is wrong a code scanner will be needed.  There are some members who know the x type inside out.

Regards,

Peter.

When the engine is running just look in the display which sometimes tells you" passenger door open etc".

If there is no message there it might need a visit to a good garage.

There is a topic on "Independent Garages" and you might find one locally who does not charge the same labour charges as Jaguar.

Hi all, opening up a very old thread here but I have just bought an x type 2.1 petrol auto, 99,000miles. Runs fine. First day all ok then second day engine management light came on and stays on - not sure if there is anything I can do without going to a specialist? Any help appreciated thanks.

Welcome to the club, David.

Have you got access to an OBD2 Code scanner?  That will look for the code and when you have that the solution can be found.  Most good garages will have diagnostic tools, but a basic scanner is not expensive  ----  I have two in my boot  ---  but in the meantime  just find a good garage and they will probably do a diagnostic test on your car for about £30.

Let us know how you get on.

Peter.

Hi Jane, and welcome to the club.

That's a bit strange. You seem to have done all, particularly having the diagnostics done at Jaguar, who should have resolved it. Which main dealer was it?

Peter.

Hi Eliesha, and welcome to the club.

It sounds something like a fault in the starter motor, but I am no expert.

The engine management light does indicate a fault and you need to have an OBD2 code reader to find what it is.  Otherwise you could get the AA or RAC out if you are a member to diagnose the fault.

Maybe another member could find a solution.

Peter.

Roger, Did you report this overfilling to the garage that did the service for you. Was the Oil you removed as new Oil should be. I would if mine like to no that the Oil was not contaminated in any way, water, fuel etc., which could have caused the increase in level. No doubt the garage would deny they had overfilled. I would be concerned about using that same garage again for work on a car of mine.

Hope things continue to be well with the car.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

hi

the P1000 is normal once codes are reset, need to be driven to clear

EML can some times just be a fluke, especially if battery low, keep a check on Oil level, if it been ok since usually ok, just over filled, but on a diesel can be first signs of leaky injectors or blocked dpf.

cheers

Joe
