Engine temperature

Does anyone know why the XF2012 2.2D does not have an engine temperature gauge?

Yes these are missing the temprature guage and now the car will warn you when the engine is over heating.

To be honest, if the car is over heating it can take a few minutes to reach a critical point.. how would you ever know with a normal temprature guage without checking it every minute.

So I guess a good warning chime when the car is over heating is the best way i guess.

My xf is five years old now so it is one of the first xf cars on the road and there is no temperature guage it would appear the car was designed that way.

mines a 2011 and no temperature gauge, it did freak me out to start with as I'm knocking on a bit and have always found comfort in knowing what my car is doing but I'm slowly getting used to not knowing!!

Mine is also a 2011 XF S, bough last October.

Was a bit surprised to not have a temperature gauge (or any others really, apart from speed, revs and an electronic fuel gauge).

Guess we all have to have faith in the electronics! But I would really like to know when it's 'up to temperature' and ready for a bit of 'action'.

Don't know about yours Jon but I only have to drive about half a mile or so and the heaters start blowing warm air, doesn't seem to take long at all to get to temperature.

Completely agree, but I have a very heavy right foot! Also can't resist 'S', Dynamic Mode & TRAC DSC!

C'mon! You only live once! (Unless you're JB!)

Dynamic makes it firmer. 'S' makes it hang on to gears and 'blip' as you slow down. TRAC DSC lets all hell break loose! Has to be done at least once a week!!

Put them all together with a bendy country lane... Heaven on wheels!

My other half (AKA SWOTO) is my speed limiter. Can't explain in words that I bought and XF-S, not to go slowly, not to kill us, but to keep (mainly) legal and go fast. It isn't really about how fat you go though, but how fast you get to how fast you can go.

Give it a go! I bet you'll be grinning!

Hey up J,

I often wondered what all them buttons down by the auto knob were .

I have all the manuals as well, but they are in the glove box, which just plain refuses to open!! lol

The XF has a 4kw Electric Heater that kicks in after two minutes to give you heat and put a load on the engine so that it warms up quicker.

That explains it then! Wouldn't it be great if there was a list of stuff that our cars do for us, but that aren't in the manual!

I think that would run to quite a list with the XF John, only had mine a year although I did have an X-Type years ago. I found this and many more things on this forum there are a lot of guys with extensive knowledge of the car on here.

I'm an old BMW guy, but I like my XF better.

Here's the story. My 2015 XF Sport had low coolant light, towed it to jaguar, installed a new water pump. Now running rough when starting with white smoke in both banks, which is water in the intake or Super Charger area. Towed back to the Dealer. Dealer said it got hot. The was no indication of overheating, no light, no sound and the car has no temp gauge.

The Dealer said a new motor was the only cure. The car had 49257 miles, on Warranty toll 50,000. 
The new motor is in, running great with zero charge to me. I am a happy Jaguar owner. I'm still looking for someone to tell my how to add A temp sensor.

If it happens again, it will be on my dime. If you get the low coolant light on shut it down if it doesn't hold water.

This is what my 2014 XF 2.2 shows via my ELM327 plug-in (the 3rd one - first 2 were useless!). It seems to vary (when hot) between 80 and 85C. This is a bit lower than I have experienced with my Td5 Land rover engine which is around 90-92C when I use a dedicated engine monitoring system. It would be nice to know if anyone could confirm the Jaguar 2.2 engine coolant temperature specs.
