I have a 3.0 d XF, and I have family living in Edinburgh as live in Portsmouth.

I drove up to Edinburgh with herself at New Years, total distance, 453 miles, M275, M27, M3, A34, M40, M42, M6,M74, A702. stopped twice for a tea and a pee, and filled up before I left Portsmouth, (to the brim 58 litres) did'nt need a top up until I got to Edinburgh with some to spare

Average speed 70-85 mph (sorry officer) wee bit faster on the M6 when I could.

Same deal on the way back, same route.

Is this common? I was expecting to fill up/top up before i got there. its my first XF, had a 2.7 d S Type before.

I dont do any motorway driving.....there are none north of Aberdeen, but using the xf in the manner for which it was designed i get around 28 mpg from my 2.7 diesel the 3.0l should give more.

Yes it's seems normal. I do a lot of motorway driving, the computer says 41 ish to the gallon. My calculator says 40 mpg. It's very god for a car this size.Well impressed.

Did 105 miles this morning, mainly M27 and M3, fair bit of stop/start past Hedge End/Eastleigh/Winchester, round trip to Farnborough, 65.5 mpg in my 2.2 2013 Lux.  Incredible I think, mainly 56ish slipstreaming lorries because I was in no rush.

I only bought my XF S last week (2nd hand 2010 40k miles) so still feeling my way round it! great car, stunning performance, but I'm only getting ~ 30 to gal "round town" did a fast run to the airport yesterday morning at 4.30 and over the 75 miles total using cruise control at 77, I averaged 29.7. Seems a bit low but I'm still using the loud peddle just for the adrenalin rush when I pull away.

Crikey Richard!!

You must really like the "loud peddle" , I cruised down to Kent (150 miles each way) the other day at about 75-80 most of the way and got 34mpg and I drive a 4.2 V8 S-type!

I just bought my first XF. I set the B trip computer for a good motorway run. It started the journey at 28.4mpg then rose number by number as the journey got to 34.3mpg. Doesn't sound great - am I using this trip computer properly?!

Sounds pretty low to me too.   The initial 28.4 seems low therefore I assume the car is being driven at reset.  If you haven't tried this already, try starting the car then reset the trip before you set off, this at least will show only the specific journey data.  Also, try trip A to verify whether there are any discrepancies between A and B.

All the best.

Thanks for your reply Colin, you're right I'd set it while on the move. I'll try the reset before setting off for the next trip.

Done 150,000 miles in my 3 litre diesel xf. Avg 35 mpg but get low 40s on motorways on a long run if I keep somewhere nearer to the speed limit.
