Guys, i'm asking if, when you change discs/pads as i'm about to do, should you replace the bolts that hold the hub to the disc ?

also, what is the torque setting for these 2 bolts ?

and finally, when compressing the brake pistons with a G-clamp (as i've read in these forums) what size of clamp should it be ? would a 50mm one do it ?

thank you all

Hello richgreenjag

If your refering to the bolts that hold the caliper to the retaining bracket then its 30Nm for the front and 32Nm for the rear or the bolts that hold the retaining plates to the hub (that you have to remove to change the discs) then its 133Nm for the front and 70Nm for the rear, you'll struggle with a 50mm clamp and its best to push the piston back when the caliper is held by one bolt (bottom one) on the retaining bracket. Don't try pushing the rear pistons back with a G clamp as these need to be wound back due to the handbrake, if unsure about the rear check www.bluejag.co.uk/rearbrakedisks.php for helpful tips. All the best, Pete.

Thanks for the info pete. by the way, i broke down last year in Crich and i wish you had been around. it was a nightmare. the AA refused to come to my aid (long story due to their mis-information). it was a sunday so halfords was shut. we survived until monday when i bought the tools from H's and repaired the car. i had tried all the bike shops in Matlock and asked the bikers. nothing. absolutely nothing. just sniggers from bikers happy to mock a motorist.

your help is refreshing and much appreciated.

by the way you say don't use a 50mm clamp but then say push the piston back..what with ?

anyway, cheers for the info.
