Hiya Guys

Just bought a 2006 S-type with Satnav, not coming for a few days but I am wondering if it comes with bluetooth built in to the satnav?

it has the phone button on the dash and on the sterring wheel but wondering how i would connect a phone to it. How would i find out if it has it or not?

Also, did i read somehwere that i can command the controls for the radio hands free? ie. audible commands

Hi Steve

The phone unit if fitted is bluetooth and is totally separate from the Sat nav, only sharing the screen.  When you get the car, press the phone button. If a phone unit isn't fitted it will show on screen that one isn't fitted. If it has one you have to pair your bluetooth mobile phone with it. Instructions here:-

If the car comes with the original Sat Nav disc you may want to obtain a newer version as apart updated maps, the disc contains software updates. From Jaguar the are very expensive, around £300 I believe.  However you can get an alternative from http://www.satnavi.com/jaguar-xj-xj8-xjr-s-x--type.php  £34.99.  I bought one last year and can vouch they are as good as a genuine Jaguar disc.

Voice control is only on certain models. It will depend what spec your one is.

Hope this helps.

Hi Colin

Thanks for answering :) and thanks for the links, I will try those sat nav disks as that looks a really good price.

I did press the button on test drive but nothing happened.. it did not say there was no phone fitted... but i had a small amount of time to fiddle with it.. so hope it does connect with bluetooth.

thanks once again :)

Hi Steve

Glad to have been of help.

Is it a private sale or from a dealer. Either way, ask them if it has a phone module, voice control etc.

When you press the phone button you should get a numeric key pad appear so you can type in the necessary code to tell the unit to pair with your phone.

I may be wrong with message if a module isn't fitted. I got that message when mine went wrong so assumed that is what you get. I apologise if I'm wrong.

Also if it's from a main dealer ask if the main software is up to date. The reason I say this is an incident I had with mine two christmases ago. It's a long story so I'll just stick to the point.

I got stuck in snow half way up a hill. Eventually made it to where I was going. When I came to leave, the car started fine as it alway does but I had a message on the dashboard saying Handbrake failure. I could not shift the lever out of park. Green Flag brought the car back home for me and after Christmas I phoned my independent service garage.  One of the owners came out 6pm New Years eve with his lap top and reset the alarms. Best bit was no charge!

I thoroughly recommend these guy's but they are in Milton Keynes, bit of a trek from Dorset!

Next time I visited them they told me Jaguar had a software update which stopped the gear shift being locked in park so they had it upgraded for me.

Worth checking out, unless yours is manual then I guess it would not be affected.

Hope I haven't put you off and sincerely hope when you get it you are pleased with it.

Bought a 2006 2.7d se yesterday and spent some time trying to pair my phone with bluetooth, not successful so far, it must work as the previous owners phone numbers were still in the memory!

Also discovered 'voice' is fitted so will have some fun getting that to recognise me as well! early days yet but wow what a quiet engine compared to my previous x type which sounded like a bag of spanners!
