Hi Everyone,

Always wanted a Jaguar since I was a little boy and at last I have now got an old X type. Its everything I expected and I love it but..

recently opened bonnet and lever went loose, luckily having read some of the other posts I didnt get bonnet shut again, (because it wont close on secondary latches), have tied it down to take to garage but car wont start, just get clicking when try to turn on ignition. Is this the immobiliser not letting car start?

Has anyone else had same problem and got round it?

Any advice would be welcome, especially as i am not very mechanically minded.

Thanks in advance

Sid

If it's clicking then the immobiliser is fine. Either a flat battery or starter motor fault. I would go for a flat battery first.

The bonnet not latching is an easy fix. The latches at the front get dirt in them. Clean them out and re Oil them. Work the lever a few times to assist freeing them. One they are clean and oiled the bonnet will latch.

if it still clicks with a new battery then the starter is faulty, try and get a jump start first.

Hi Chris & Steve,

Many thanks for the advice, really didnt think it would be battery as day before it started on the key 1st time no hesitation, but that was exactly what it was, so many many thanks for that.

Unfortunately I still have problem with bonnet not closing, have given the latches a good dose of WD40, cleaned them up and wiggled them, but when drop bonnet from about 15 inches it doesnt seem to catch, but at least now i can tie it down and get it to a garage.

Really appreciate you taking the trouble to help, thanks
