Hello,

I'm re-introducing myself after a couple of years absence. I used to have an X-Type 3.0 Sport (a car I would definitely own again). I have now bought a 1997 XJ Sport and I can't wait for it to be dropped off tonight.

I'll be scooting around on here learning as much as I can about the car. It's a blue 3.2 (6 cylinder), almost full Jaguar dealer service history, 140, 000 miles. On the test drive it was faultless and drove like new, The only slight concern I have so far is head gasket as I understand this car is right at the recommended replacement mileage.

Hi Trevor,

Welcome back to the forum and a return to Jag ownership.

Are you buying the XJ from a dealership?  You could always try and convince them to change it for you........

Best regards,

Dave

Thanks for the welcome Dave, unfortunately it didn't come from a dealer, I've had a deal with someone I do work for which has worked out well but I'm on my own as far as repairs etc.

The car has arrived tonight and apart from a couple of bodywork issues I'll be repairing it looks fantastic. The only faults I can find are a rear window not working and a high tick over which gets up to 2000 revs after revving the engine. I imagine I I'll start off cleaning the throttle body. That's if I can resist cleaning and polishing the car first! It's such a fantastic car it even exceeds  my expectations....

Hi Trevor,

Shame about the lack of a dealer, I hope you bought it for a decent price with a little comfort room to pay for the head gasket.

Sounds like a find :)  nothing wrong with a close inspection (clean and polish) of the bodywork - you know, to make note of any imperfections. ;)

I trust you're going to post a couple of phots when you're done?  You could always come and show it off at the Heritage Centre Bank Holiday Monday....?

Best regards,

Dave

With the work I'm doing for him and the cash I paid I've effectively got it for £500.

It has a full years MOT (just one advisory on a suspension ball joint), Jaguar service history up to 100,000 miles, (it's now showing 140,000). It's in pretty good condition with some paint work for me to do, I have a hobby restoring cars so I expect it will be ready for somewhere like the Bank Holiday meeting later in the Summer...

I'll get some pictures in the morning and I'll probably run a 'work in progress' thread...I'm all ready to spend any spare time I get working on the car...I just checked all the lights now it's dark and they're all working and I love the feeling inside the car, it's very nicely lit and has quality!

Hi Trevor,

The XJ looks amazing, looks like you've got a bit of a stunner there.  The cockpit looks tidy as well.  :D

Thanks Dave, I gave it a good clean up today. I did the interior after the pics so looks even better now. I'm very impressed with the excellent mechanical condition too. It just needs some paintwork done and a couple of exterior trims replacing over the next week or two. I've not got any tax on it until later this week so haven't even had a good run in it yet, I can't wait...
