I have a 2004 TDV6 2.7 and my local garage are having trouble with matching the existing paint colour which is silver. Has anyone else come up against this problem and if so did they sort it?

Hi Anthony, it seems strange to me that your garage cannot match the paint colour of your S-type. The paint code is to be found on the front passenger door jamb in the form of three capital letters ( for example in the case of my own S-type a 2002 model it is HGZ which equates to Jaguar Racing Green Pearl) if they have quoted this code when trying to obtain the paint and cannot get it I am afraid I am at a loss as to how to track any down. Have you found and quoted the paint code? If not I suggest you do and then I think you will have no problem in getting it. Good luck and best wishes Geoff.

Hi Geoff. Thanks for your reply. The garage have the paint code from the front passanger door jamb and have obtained two lots of the paint that is marked on the label. However both paints are of differnt shades of silver/platingnum. The garage and paint suppliers are saying that the TDV6 was released in 2005 and my car was regestered in 2004? and some how the paint sprayed on my car is of a differnt make. How can I find details on this paint if this is the case.

Hi again Anthony, I am guessing the paint code for your S-type is MDZ (platinum metallic) this paint was used on Jaguars from 2000 and was definitely an S-type colour from 2004, so based on this if that is the code they have used the paint should match. There is no chance I suppose that the car has had a respray at some time and the paint used was close to the original but not exactly the same? It seems very strange if they cannot get a match using the Jaguar paint code. Best of luck Geoff.

Hi Anthony,

I don't know if this will help you but i had similar problems.I have a 2004 Platinum s type.It has had paint at some time in it's life of that there is no doubt. My local paint factor  tried twice to match my paint-NO luck. They were adamant that they had it right and i was wrong. Then i read on one of the american forums that there are indeed 3 shades of MDZ platinum and the last shade change was in 2004  at some point. That then run on until production ceased..I found another paint factors who when they checked confirmed this.I now have the correct shade of MDZ which matches 60% of the car.Saving up now to have the remaining 40% painted to match.

I hope this helps

Tim

Hi Tim, many thanks for your post on my problem of paint matching. I will now go and tell my garage that there are three shades of MDZ and hopefully they can find the third shade. I will keep you posted. Tony.
