I own a 56 2.0 D SE,   its the best motor I`ve had in years, apart from one thing, every time I go to fill up with Diesel the pumps keep stopping, and it takes ages to top up.

l have tried all the usual things like moving the neck of the filler in and out, and into every point of the circumference of the filler spout. with out any success.( Life gets tedious don`t it )

Anyone else suffered this problem, Any help gratefully obliged.  Noel :(

Hi guys,

I have just purchased a 3.0D Luxury Jaguar XF and I have noticed it only fills up to half way before going slow, and I end up giving up, I have noticed so far, Esso garages can fill in up all the way without issues, if anyone knows of anymore that does, please let us know :)

My old 2.5 petrol one was a pig to fill up. I found best way was to hold with handle at 9 O Clock and pull trigger to max. I could get between £5 and £7 at a time before it stopped.

My new diesel one is perfect and fills quickly with one press.

I seem to recall a thread on another forum that mentioned a canister that requires replacement but i can't remember exact details.

That sounds bazaar Noel, I've never had any trouble ... had to wiggle it about occasionally but then don't we all!

Sympathies.

Mine does this! About the only thing I hate about my car! I thought it was just me being a div but clearly not

I find Shell OK, but I am guessing that it is not the make of fuel, but the make of the pump, and its delivery setting.

peter you are absolutely right... its the fuel pump to which you use!  when i worked at tnt i had the guys come out and check our pumps, on which they say pumps are all different to which ever rate they are set to pump out the fuel. some have a sensor for cut out, so if it goes in to quick it detects the back pressure and cuts out. in the old days it would splash back at you?( remember us old uns,) so just remember take your time or find a fuel station that pumps in the fuel that suits your car ! ! !

The fuel tank will have a line out to allow air to be pushed out as fuel goes in.. Place be never had a problem fueling my X so I haven't looked into this but my VW Passat had a button just inside the fuel filler hole that could be pressed to vent the air out quicker.. It's a common 'mod' to remove the valve to save pressing the button, it's called a ventectomy.. Some say this also allowed more fuel to be put in..

Welcome to the Club, Dave.

I missed your earlier post re the EGR.  Some members have blanked it off in the 2.0 litre diesel, and some use either a fuel additive or a cleaner spray, both Wynn's Products.

And thanks for that useful and informative post re diesel filling.

Regards,

Peter.

[I used to know that works quite well before I retired]
