X Type rear brake inbalance!

Hi,

 

Has anyone ever experienced rear brake in balance on 2.2D X type?

 

Pads & discs ok.

 

Have freed up caliper slides,  stripped down unit and checked piston etc all ok, & Bled off brakes. 

 

These faults showed up on mot test both wheels will lock up but the r/hand one requires 50% more force on pedal to lock it up.

 

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

 

there could be many different reasons for brake imbalance.

 

• Faulty caliper (internally)
• Weak brake hose (balloon'ing out when pressure is applied to it)
• Pads not free to move with caliper cradle
• Pad lining material (surface) defective
• ABS modulator faulty

...to name but a few!

You could try swapping the pads to the other side to see if that improves it or makes it worse.

Otherwise, I would suspect the caliper as being faulty

I fitted a new caliper which then brought the braking back into balance, and a mot pass last week I had  checked most of the other points you suggested, many thanks for your reply.
