Hiya, well you def know your stuff, I wonder if you can help me out. I have a Uk 04 plate s type r, I have owned for 3 years & have always had audio probs with the car , it is all audio , sterio , nav ect except for screen press beeps, originally turning ign on / off cured it but now it's comes on when it wants but mainly doesn't work, when this happens my cd changer & phone is not recognised, also recently had probs with alarm, I had alarm backup box probs so disconnected, which cured the backup beep problem, now when the car has been standing for half hour or so the alarm fob won't unlock car or deactivate alarm, if you unlock drivers door with key the drivers door will unlock but when you open the door the alarm will sound then you have to start car to get alarm off, also while in this mode it will not open windows by holding key in lock which it should do, if you do not lock the car the same thing happens the fob will not work but car remains unlocked / unalarmed, the only way I can get in the car without the alarm going off is to unlock drivers door with key, go to boot & keep pressing the boot release button whilst pressing the unlock on keyfob ( the boot won't open cause only the drivers door is unlocked) then all of sudden fob will unlock central locking / deactivate alarm. Many tx for looking at this....... Franco

Hi Franco

Oh dear! you are having a few problems.

Firstly, the stereo/satnav issue may not be directly related to the door locking fault.

The door locking/unlocking issue I would hazard a guess as being a faulty door lock mechanism (internal microswitch fault) which can cause all the issues if it doesn't recognise a door being in the closed position.

You could try spraying WD40 into the latch mechanism to disperse any water and potentially clean the contacts.

To effectively diagnose the problem further, an electronic scan of the body control system by an auto-electrician should isolate the exact cause of the fault...which is preferable to randomly replacing suspected components.

Let me know how you get on with spraying the door latches.

Regards,  Trevor
