Hi All, I have a 2010 XK in Ultimate Black and I was considering fitting daytime running lights. Whilst these are not compulsory I have had a few instances of times when other vehicles (usually vans or lorries) have not seen me until the last minute- low and black. Daytime running lights would most likely help this.

Apparently Jaguar do not do them which I find strange. Does anyone make them or do I just switch on my lights all day?

Hi....and welcome to the forum!

I think that either flashing the car (which is apparently acceptable behaviour in Europe) to warn them that you are about to overtake or just running your headlamps during the day may be the best option as the beam intensity would be more efficient than day running lamps

Hi Admin

Thanks for this. It is now mandatory on all new cars to have running lights and I am sure that it will not be long until someone starts to question why it is not mandatory on all cars. Also on low slung, dark coloured sports cars in winter weather it is also perhaps a good idea. The idea is simply to be seen. Flashing lights here in the UK is usually a sign to let vehicles out or to change lanes. Not too sure that this is what I want to do. Also the new running lights tend to be LED and are extremely bright (both front and back) so they can be seen quite easily.

It looks like I will simply have to run my lights all day until the powers that be decide to make this compulsory and Jaguar or omeone else start producing the lights.

Thanks for your comments

Permanently running headlamps (dipped beam) have been a mandatory requirement on motorbikes in the UK for many years now and it has been proven that it has reduced accidents, although going over bumpy roads can affect the beam height and can be misinterpreted as 'flashing' a car to turn, for example.

Hi. I have a 2007 XK and there is a option when the jaguar diagnostic system is plugged in and you can select a Swedish light option which will have the side lights come on when the ignition is turned on.

Hi, What an excellent piece of news. I shall speak to a mechanic friend of mine and see if he can activate this on my vehicle.

Thanks very much indeed

I think it has to be the genuine jaguar software as that opens up all systems, shame that you are so far away as i can borrow a friends laptop and OBD cable.

Should not be an issue as my mechanic friend is a mechanic at the local Jaguar franchise! So hopefully he can check this out and we can get it sorted.

Hi John,

Hope you are keeping well.

They look pretty good, (I've been looking into daylight led's) I might consider them.

Graham,

Hi Graham,

All is fine in wet and windy Wales thanks. Hope all is going well for you too.

I was considering the Adamesh DRL's for the XK because they are dual purpose  - better fogs & DRL's - depending on how you wire them up.

Now I've changed to an XKR - these lights won't fit - no fogs on a 2010  - not seen anything yet for the 2010 and from 2011 Jag fitted them as standard.

Hi,

I'm still considering the Adamesh DRL's, does anyone know the best way of getting to the existing fog lights, does it entail taking the  bumper off or not?

Graham.

hi Graham

I fitted DRL to my s-type r and I think they make the car much more visable

I converted the lower fogs to drl and fog

I also converted the indicators to DRL aswell

you dont usually have to remove the bumper, just the lower bumper undertray usually to get to them

have a look here at the ones i fitted
