1. Fuel economy : is ≈ 21.5 what i should expect (light foot driving trained on many large engine automatics) or is it too much ? i have to add that one of the lambdas is gone (i will go code reading after new year to diagnose some issues)

2. Uphill (when going light on acceleration) the box is acting like it doesn't know whether to shift up or not, which causes a bit of jerk, no issue on flat/ down hill or when put a bit more weight on acceleration pedal.

3. Before I've bought the car, previous owner replaced the bearing on passenger side rear wheel, and apparently the sensor wire broke (the mechanic soldered it but the ABS light is on) he mentioned that its an abs sensor that is fitted with the bearing but the wire is a separate part (detachable) question is : is that true ? And can i replace mentioned wire ?

Hi Seb,

What engine is in your  X Type?  I had an X Type [Manual] with a 2.5 litre Petrol engine with All Wheel Drive.  It would return between 20 and 25 mpg on short trips but on longer trips I have had 37 mpg.

Hi Seb,

I have had a look at the various statistics and the average consumption for that model is given as 29.5 mpg, so your 21.5 is not far out, presuming you are doing shorter journeys, and not on empty motorways

It was not a particularly frugal engine, which is probably why the diesel was introduced.  It is FWD.

I think from my experience on automatics there can be a flat spot between gears going uphill particularly with a fairly heavy car, and I solved it by pressing the "S" button which keeps it in the gears a bit longer.

Regards,

Peter.

I think there were.  In 2002 a 2.1 litre V6 was introduced with FWD.  Your car could be one.  I'm just guessing a bit but I do know that the first X Type was more or less the Mondeo Ghia with a different radiator grill, and in very late 2001 a new Jaguar model was designed.

Just Guessing, but I am not a bad guesser!

i thought all X-types share platform with mondeo ? i think i will do those tie rod ends and then after code reading, i take on the sensor wiring :)

Hi Seb,

The X type and Mondeo do share the same platform and also the same gearbox.

Car manufacturers did and still do often share technology as well as the other bits.

The S Type uses the Lincoln platform, and the 2.7 diesel engine in the S Type was a joint venture between Peugeot and Ford.

Cheers and good luck with the track rod ends.

No cover, if it will rain though I will have to move it till next weekend when I will be able to sort a garage for a day, I've bought a set of Delphi track rod ends, they cost me £24 in my local part shop, should be fun (if the weather won't ruin it, it feels like a nice spring day today in my area)
