Hi Simon,

I've owned Citroens in the past and they always had excellent brakes, having said that the ones on my '04 V8 are the most powerful I've ever had, but you do have to push fairly hard before they really bite.

If you can get the ABS to engage on a dry road then they're powerful enough, you've got more brake power than grip from your tyres.

My s type stops very quickly, although I have only had to do it a few times, mostly at traffic lights and idiots pulling out in front of you.

Well spotted Simon...its good you had you're doubts about the brakes being a bit dodgy.

Could you upload a picture of the cracked caliper as it would be good for other members to possibly check and identify if they also have the same issue?
