I let battery go flat while on holiday for a over a month.

Charged up but on trying to start all went dead except for clicking noise to the right of steering wheel down on RH side of footwell.  Also battery voltage went down from approx 12 to 5v.

Car is 2009 so may need new battery?

Also is it normal for various lights to come on when charging. Charger connected to positive term and negative to remote post in well.

Welcome to the Club, Col.

It does look very like a new battery.  I have heard that when a modern battery dies, it dies quickly.

It could be worth taking if off and having it tested   ---   but they are a fair weight to carry.

My S Type had a new battery in 2012  --  when it was 5 years old.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Peter

After much discussion we decided to get battery tested and it was not too good so bought one from Halfords. Started first time so 5 years seems reasonable life  of old one. Surprisingly start button did not glow and have not lost any info as expected.

Now enjoying a fantastic car and hope to buy another one soon, wife allowing!

Glad it's sorted, Col.

I think my S type will probably be my last car  ---  unless I get another lease of life.

I used to come back home to Lancashire every other week throughout February to September to watch Rugby League, but this season my wife and family said I was getting too old to do an 190 mile round trip every fortnight.  It will be the only the odd match on a sunny Sunday from now on!

I part exchanged my X type D just recently, as I had owned the car for 9 years having purchased it when it was 1 year old.  It was time for a change.  The car always started first time whatever the weather and I never replaced the battery in all that time.  I hope the battery on my XF 3 litre V6 lasts as long!

Tony.
