access to XF front grill

Afternoon all ,

being the proud owner of an XF 3.0 D 2009 , I would like to attach a badge to the front grill which will need to be bolted through with a backing plate. I have had a look at it and there is no access to the back of the grill from under the bonnet or from underneath of the car .Has anyone gained access behind the grill without removing the front bumper or a bit more drastic making an access hole behind the number plate.I believe the reason for blanking everything off in this area is a design requirement to direct maximum air flow to the radiator.

cheers Alan

Good afternoon, Alan.

Getting behind the grill does not look easy.  Most suggest removing the front bumper, but that does seem a bit too complicated.

There is another option which could be glueing it on with Araldite.

Now with my S Type I can just lift the bonnet and ...........

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter ,

I have looked at that option but I will need to file a flat area on the grill to get a decent contact area and im not to keen to do

that. I believe a new plastic grill is about £250 , the price of plastic has certainly shot up.

cheers Alan

Hi

I am going to be doing the same in a week or so this is interesting. I will find a way to fix my badge on previously I have made a backing plate that can fasten on with cable ties from plastic using a dremmel if you are inventive I think maybe a plasterboard expanding fixing or something that opens up behind the grill? I will fathom something out when my new S badge arrives.

Never guessed there was no grill access as I only just bought the XF R-Sport this week. Cheers.

Hi Warren, and welcome to the club.

Tommy has made a vert good suggestion.  I have used those small cavity bolts with wood and they are very easy to use.

I hope you enjoy the club as well as you enjoy the Jaguar experience.

Regards,

Peter.
