Hi,

Looking to buy a OBD2 scanner tool, ideally one that covers engine and brake systems on the Jag.

Budget is up to £150, ideally I will use this on other cars too if anyone has any recommendations?

Cheers all

Mathew,

Peter will be along shortly to advise you which one to buy, we all think he has shares in the things !

I think he recommends people to get them on eBay , the one he suggests is a lot cheaper than £150, about £25 I think.

This will give you a rough idea, But Peter will tell you exactly which one is best .

Morning, Matthew.

I have a scanner from eBay costing about £25 which I bought after paying £69 to a main dealer to identify an "engine Mafunction" message [EGR Valve].  However ,I have never used it as I have not had any other message to identify yet!

Just google eBay and take your pick from what is there.  They are universal, and you should not have to pay too much.

Regards,

Peter.

If you intend to use it a lot, and on other cars why not go the route of the software and connecting cable to lap top, also to be found on eBay. I am assuming you have a laptop in this day and age,(who hasn't) . I am thinking of doing this.  At present I have a  Avtop Code Reader. which works fine, but  I think the software to laptop is more informative and covers more details. If you buy a good one it not only tells you the fault but shows a  picture of where to find the faulty component.

Good luck and post us to let us know how you get on.

Stan

ps. Sorry if I have done you out of your commission Peter

Stan,

You will be known has "Stan the Ban" if you go upsetting Peter by doing him out of his commission , he only lives just down the road from you, and is probably letting the digs loose as we speak !

As an former steelworker, I always work on tonnage.  For every 1000 tons sold I get five shillings.

That is a lot of scanners.

I have a bluetooth Elm327 that worked fine with an android Torque app on my previous car a Rover 75, but it doesn't even light up in my S Type.

My Jags OBDII socket has only 7 populated contacts of the 16 available.

I am looking to get a JLM Mangoose V131 ( I have read somewhere that version works with earlier 2001 Jags)
