laying up a Jaguar

I will be laying up my S-type for three months, while I go on vacation, in the past I have left a trickle charger on her.

 

But now there is no electric where parked.

 

I have three options

 

Leave it as is,

 

disconnect the battery

 

remove the battery and take to my apartment to trickle charge.

 

what would you suggest.

 

I do have breakdown coverage with home start.

If your battery is in good condition I'd say just leave it. Longest I've left mine was while in the US/Canada for a month. I've had my S Type 6 years, do about 6000 miles a year and never had the battery off or on charge.

I would be inclined to do the same, as the battery will be OK in the car in storage.  A power pack will soon start it when you get back.

Well if it were my battery I would take it out and put it on trickle charger while you are away. Being in and connected to the car will cause some drain on the battery and may be too low to start the car and or cause fault messages on start up.

 

You have more chance of damaging and reducing the battery life by slowly draining it over 3 months and then trying to start the car with it.

 

To save yourself the cost of a new battery, or the damage to the battery for sitting slowly draining over 3 months stick it on the trickle charger and it will be fully charged and ready to go when you get back, without any hassles. (one hopes)

If the battery is good it will last the 3 months easily if it's just disconnected and left in place. They sit on shelves in warehouses and shops for months on end before being bought. Reconnect when you return. If it's aging a bit then you may need to boost it to start but it should be fine after that.

If it fails after you return after being disconnected and needing a boost then I doubt it would have lasted much longer anyway and would probably have failed anyway in the not to distant future.
