Hi all,

I have spent over £1100 on my 2001 Jag S Type varying from heater control valve to tyres and suspension issues. That said I expected to be able to enjoy the vehicle for a while until disaster struck and the car is stuck in park at a friends house. The solenoid in the box was red hot but that's all I know. Scrap?

Welcome to the club, Si.

 

I am not an expert, but I do believe that there is an override somewhere, but I don't know where.

 

However, some suggestions are to get someone to rock the car [heavy job] while you press and release the brake pedal.

 

If the solenoid is hot, I think it is suggesting replacement.

 

Meanwhile, don't despair. You will get it working, and get the pleasure out of driving a Jaguar S Type.

Thanks for reply. Due to financial constraints I have decided to put Jag up for sale on eBay as don't have any more time or money to invest in it now. I've started the bids at scrap value so fingers crossed!

Si, I am sorry to hear your troubles. I will say that, had you asked on here, you most likely would have saved a lot of money, the members here have a fix for the heater valve issue, as well as the suspension, by sourcing the parts ( I am guessing bushings) I myself have experienced the stuck in park issue, but thanks to advice on this great forum I have been able to sort.

Even if you go ahead and sell, it would be better if it could drive.

I know you are disillusioned at the moment, but take my word for it, there is little that goes wrong with this car, the members here cannot sort for a reasonable outlay. William

Every now and then you come across a Friday car

The one that got built in a rush on Friday afternoon to meet the quotas before pub time after the weeks work.

Sounds like you got one. However, don't be put off by this one. Every batch has its rotton egg but the rest are sound.

Jags really are great cars and reliable (the later ones are anyway!) If you sell it, be tempted to buy another. If you source a good one from a reputable dealer or trader, even a good private sale. Get an independent inspection if you aren't savvy with mechanics or get aomwone who is to look it over.

Sounds like you got caught out with a bit of a lemon, but for every lemon Jag out there I'd say there are 50 excellent ones

There are three kinds of car that come out of the factory.

 

The Friday night ones, as Mick has said.

 

The ordinary well made car.

 

The Foreman's friend.  Getting the latter is the hardest job, but if you can find a main dealer who has used one as a demonstrator, odds on that the Foreman has watched it on the line.

 

My Uncle was a Foreman at Halewood, and always had a very good car!
