You have An S Type, David.  These cars are a real head turner, and there are not as many in the UK as the XF.

My brother has most blokes dream job, delivering high class car models to folk who have been a little careless with theirs, he delivered an XF the other day and remarked how smooth and comfortable it was to drive, bear in mind this guy drives Ferrari's and all sorts.

Not sure a Ferrari could ever be described as smooth and comfortable lol

Yeah, I'm probably talking about the 'all sorts' but couldn't bring a relevant model to mind lol.

:D

This sounds like a win-win situation.......everyone round to Peters for his birthday celebrations and we get to drive Jaguars to the Midlands :)

It was a great party.  It lasted three days and the whole clan came to Center Parcs [Cumbria] and did all sorts of energetic things.

I was SORELY tempted by an Aston DB7 'S' from Chiltern Aston a few months back.

It was the classic Chiltern racing green, yellow mouth ring, amazing green/polished alloy wheels, green/yellow piped interior and it was a certified number 5 of a limited edition of only 7 ever built for Mayfair Aston.

It was a total jaw-dropper to look at.

It wasn't CLOSE to my XK in terms of 'driveability'.

I kept the XK.

I bought a 2009 XF for my wife (for putting up with me!) when I took early retirement 10 months ago.

She loves the car to bits.

A word of advice with diesels - get the DPF filters cleaned and re-charged by a Jaguar dealer even if you think it doesn't need it.

Not cheap, but the mpg went up from average town driving - 26 to 31.

A considerable jump.

Roy,

Good call, I've had two Astons, overpriced heaps of junk and notoriously unreliable , also not particularly fast ( my XKR is miles faster, as was my XJ Supersport).

The DB7 also has to be serviced twice as often as the DB9's and Vantage, which is extremely expensive ( My DB9 cost £1150 for a basic service!)  .

The XK is a far superior car in every way , as is the XF .

Also I would be careful of diesels they might work out expensive the way things are going .

Good advice re the DPF,  Roy.

I had my 2.7 D Terracleaned a couple of months ago and I am now getting just over 32 round the town , and just over 40 on longer runs with 49.2 mpg achieved on a 70 miles run with only 20 miles on the M6.

I read that article Trevor, and sighed with relief that the only time I use the car in London is when we visit our daughter who is eel outside the congestion charge area.  The emissions test on modern diesel is quite stringent, and it is the older ones --  vans and lorries -- which cause Boris to cough.

Still loving the XF  B)

Had the speakers in the rear doors changed for Rockford Fosgate ones by a local Audio place as on of them was knackered and making some horrid noises

Richard,

The XF is fab isn't it?

That was the car the stealership lent me the various times the Aston was in the garage , it was so good I vowed the next car I bought would be a Jag.

On one occasion they lent me the XF- R - S , which at 550BHP was quite a beast , but was so much dearer than the XF-R is wasn't really justified .

Glad you got you speakers fixed, as a retired music researcher I'm very fussy about the quality of the audio .

Bit the bullet and have had my car Terracleaned this morning I have had a few issues with my car lighting up the dash with restricted performance but after switching the car off for 5 mins and restarting all is well again but thought I would give this Terraclean a go and see what happens.... Only driven it 7 miles back from having it done no noticeable differences yet.....

Hi Richard,

I think that you will need a longer run to notice the difference.  My car had a 25 mile round trip with a bit of a bash during the journey.  I did notice a difference when I put my foot down.  A couple of weeks later I had a longer journey a I really notice the difference in mpg.

As a point of interest, where did you have the Terraclean done?

Regards,

Peter.

Well currently enroute to Silverstone and averaging 48.6 MPG that's the best I have seen since having the car previous best was 46.3

Peter.
