Welcome to the club, Gary. There were about 330k s type made with about half of them exported, mostly to the USA. I don't know exactly how many were made with the manual gearbox, but I would hazard a guess and suggest no more than about 5,000. Regards, Peter.
hi gary and welcome, I don't think ther are many about but their is plenty s type owners on here that can give you good advice on them. were abouts in the Lanarkshire area are you from????
Welcome to the Club. Kim. The s type is a great car, and the 2.7 litre Diesel is a very good engine if you treat it well. There are a couple of things to remember. The V6 has two EGR valves than can get a bit dirty, and the cheap way to clean them is a good blast occasionally. The next cheapest is a can of Wynns EGR Cleaner [Diesel] A terraclean service also is beneficial and the cost of around £120 --- check it out on the Internet. I use Shell v power, which has improved mpg and performance. Now just enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
Hi all- Brand new to this forum and considering buy a used S-Type. I'm hoping I can get some input from experienced owners. The Jaguar I'm looking at is an 2001 S-Type. It has 77,000 miles on it, there's no visible damage inside or out and has been pretty well looked after by it's current owner. However, the check engine light is on and there is a slight intermittent rumble when the car is idling. I'm wondering what to expect from the car in the way of upkeep, things to be on the lookout for and possible down-the-road expenses, as it's now about 15 years old. If it makes a difference, I live in Las Vegas where the heat can be murder on a car, regardless of its age. Thanks in advance. Hope to gain some knowledge!
