  1. Well, now the kids have grown up and we have made our final house move, we no longer need "sensible" cars. So I have dipped my toe into the world of Jaguar. I have just purchased a 58 plate X Type 2.2D SE, Auto, in black. My last car was a 1.4 petrol Megane, and what a difference. I actually want to drive my 30 mile commute between Liverpool and Manchester every morning now. Leather, heated seats, cruise control, better fuel consumption. Completely different way to drive. I love it. If I have a complaint, its the lack of bluetooth audio or USB. But that's the same with many cars of this type. I do believe I have seen the last petrol engined car on my driveway and possibly my first of many Jags.

  3. Hi Gary and a warm welcome to the JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB. Peter has already expressed there are many S - Type owners on here whom would offer advice if or when needed.

  4. Installed reasonably well. As usual, Micro$oft have taken the best features and hidden them away. Ie. Control Panel. Biggest problem? Kaspersky doesn't work with Windows 10, despite their protestations that it would be fully supported. Does anybody know a mainstream Cyber protection suite that works with Windows 10 please?

  5. Hi Gary, I forgot to mention the topic "blessing or curse". There are quite a few drivers who prefer the manual gearbox. As I said before, there are no exact statistics that I could find, but certainly there are not many 2.7D with the manual gearbox, as the ZF 6 speed auto box is very suited to the big diesel. I have no problems at all with driving a manual -- my 2.5 AWD petrol X Type had a manual 5 speed gearbox -- but getting a bit older and being used to automatics since I retired, I looked for an s type with an automatic gearbox, and after about three weeks searching I found what I wanted, and never came across an S type diesel with a manual gearbox. There is a market for "stick" driving and I am fairly certain that if your are happy with a manual gearbox, the rarity element will be an asset when selling the car. And one smaller little bit you should need to know is that the second turbo kicks in at 2,000 rpm and if you want to drive quickly a manual gearbox can keep both turbos spinning easier than an auto, and will still let you drive economically. Regards, Peter.

  6. As you probably know if you have a diesel S Type, the flexi / downpipe from the exhausts is something of an Achilles heel. Replacement exhaust sections including cat costing eye watering amounts.and even the jaguar espoused kit still costs quite a bit by the time it has been fitted. Stratstone quoted me £700. A further solution involves removing the flexi and replacing with a rigid pipe. Personally, being an engineer, if an item is designed with a flexible coupling there is probably a good reason why, so that idea is a non starter in my eyes. There is another solution which seems to work perfectly and costs in the region of £60 per side. I have used, for many years, a relatively local Powerflow exhaust franchise and the chap there is always able to apply a little thought and come up with elegant solutions. He has now been able to use one of the Powerflow flexi modules with a fabricated flange and the original flange to make a replacement flexi section which should be a lot more robust than the original exhaust. £60 per side :) Maybe if your local Powerflow exhaust franchise is any good and enjoys a challenge, it might be the way to go forward :) Just a thought if anybody is interested.

  8. Superb car love it to bits, had the car for 10 months and wish I tried Jaguars before the only down side is the cost of fuel when I finish work on lates (12.30 in the morning) the motorways are fairly quiet so i tend to go for a spin, I live about 1.5 mile from work this tends to end up at a 50 mile journey!
