  1. I had a tow bar on my old xf 3.0d Care and research of available types is needed as some require large amounts of the rear valance removing! Best to go for the *13 pin electrics and the cheapest dedicated I have seen is to import from Germany at a cost of £120 (A Jaguar dealer will still have to enable the ECU for towing) If you use *13 pin electrics you can get a cheap 13 to 7 pin plug in adaptor if needed? Being you car is 6 years old, It may be wise to check 1st if the rear exhaust boxes can be removed with out damage? And if carrying a full load of passengers and equipment in the boot it might be worth up grading the rear shock absorbers to a aftermarket heavy duty type. Tip: Carry something in the boot to kneel on? plus gardening gloves, I kept an old square of carpet on top of the spare wheel. Swan neck balls, electric plugs & safety cable are fiddly to fit as there up behind the rear valance so its a hands and knees job. Apart from grease wear the gloves to pull the plug as these usually need a lot of tugging and when come out and you end up skinning flesh on the nearest part of the car.

  2. As an S-Type owner, you'll be aware (I guess) of how sensitive the electronics is to low battery voltage. You'll maybe not know though, what you're expected to do after dis-connecting and re-connecting the battery. I've put together a PDF document which takes you through the procedure step by step. Nothing that isn't readily available elsewhere but just gathered together and (in my view) logically ordered into a single reference. It also includes how to get the audio system working when you don't have the security code I've been asked for it so many times that I though I'd make a thread just for access to that document so here it is:- Battery reset.pdf

  5. As far as I can tell the self programming info as per Bluejag is a complete red herring, myself and a couple of other forum contributors tried all their advice numerous times, to no avail. For myself, I bought an unprogrammed fob from eBay (£15) and had a new transponder key cut (£65) as mine is pre facelift and has a separate key and fob. A local independent programmed the new key for £20. I them used an eBay refurb service on the original key (£18), who changed out all the switches and replaced the battery, this key didn't need programming etc. They wouldn't change the case and buttons so I did this myself with a new case kit (£5). So I now have 2 fully programmed and good as new keys and fobs for c£120 all in, which I'm happy with...
