  1. Hi Andy, The first time it happened to me I called out Britannia Rescue, and the guy who came out with a huge tow truck said "I know nothing about these modern cars, and as it is an automatic I can't tow it to a dealer". My son-in-law googled the issue and that answer came up. Regards, Peter

  3. Hi Paul, The one thing I find odd about ignorant bad service and manors is that I was told a while back, that it takes more energy than being polite and helpful. Treat others as you would like to be treated and the world will be a much better place, plus, personally, If I get great service, I don't mind paying a bit more and will return . 😊👍 Cheers Andrew

  5. Welcome to the Club, Adrian. The x type is a nice car and a pleasure to drive. My son has just bought and X type Estate with the same engine -- a good workhorse and very economical. Regards, Peter.

  7. Hi Andrew, Most modern cars have loads of electrical sensors and if something quite minor needs attention the EML comes on. Getting a diagnostic tool such as an OBD2 side scanner [ £20 off eBay] will tell you the code, a quick google will tell you what it means, and another quick request to the club members will tell you the solution. My son has just bought an X Type Sport estate 2.0D with 91k on the clock on an 06 plate for £3,250, so I am sure you will find one within your budget. Regards, Peter.

  8. Hi Paul, Being polite costa nothing, and I also wonder where it has gone. One of the big problems is that many people use the anonymity of the internet to be nasty when they would not have the courage to do so face to face. I too appreciate that the JOC is a friendly club with tolerant moderators. Regards, Peter.

  9. I would look for either a fractured induction hose check all the way from turbo to engine also the intercooler my mondeo constantly blew hoses usually the one from egr valve into engine or could be a fault air flow sensor it would have to be one or the other the black sooty smoke is because it's not getting the correct air to fuel ratio After changing many hoses I splashed out and bought a full set of Samco silicone hoses expensive but I never changed another hose till the day I chopped it in for the XF
