Update on the issues: ECO Stop/Start has now triggered an 'ECO Stop/Start not available' warning symbol so took car back to dealer. Of course as soon as the technician sat in teh car and fired it up, no warning light! He put the car on the diagnostic machine and sure enough there is a fault with the battery charging circuit somewhere. Error code reader also threw up a Transmission module fault code which explains the 'hunting' when the car is held on the brake. All booked in for diagnosis/rectification a week on Monday. Hopefully they'll fix these issues and all will be well....... watch this space!12 points

Every club has rules which are there to ensure that all matters are conducted in a friendly and positive way. The Jaguar Owners Club has rules which are rarely infringed, which demonstrates how good the membership is. I have read the rules of other clubs whose rules are more stringent, and I will quote from one:- "The Administrators of this forum reserve the right to add to/delete or modify any of the forum rules at any time, they further reserve the right to add to/delete or edit any member's posts to reflect those rules. We don't like to do this, but sometimes a little discipline is needed" The JOC rules could be summarised as follows:- Do not post copyright material. Do not post for the same posting or to increase your post count. Don't post anything that breaks the law or encourage others to do so. Do not posts anything that even hints of advertising. [Promoting something which will give you or any other body with which you are involved pecuniary advantage or similar is an example] Members must ensure your post is useful. The Moderators may decide what is acceptable at its absolute discretion. Any form of hostility to a member of the moderating team will result in a permanent ban. Anyone whose post has been deleted should realise that a rule has been infringed of deemed so. Regards, Peter.1 point

The 4.2 shouldn't need the cam chain mod as far as I'm aware, Jaguar did it when they changed from the 4.0 Regarding the exhaust Paramount performance have a range of options I believe http://www.paramount-performance.com/S-type/1 point

£500, I wish !!! Went to collect my spacesaver today, oh dear again !!! Dealer offered to fit it for me, then found i've a sub in the boot floor so i need a host of other things for the wheel to sit on and above, besides the jack toolkit polystyrene holder. ( I did supply my Vin Number to identify my vehicle but alas eh !!!) The saga continues ! Saturday is the next instalment. When i came out of the dealership my vehicle was surrounded by dealership mechanics ( Sorry i meant Technicians ) They said they hadn't seen one of these before !!!1 point

It was a complicated reply, Jim, and quite unnecessary, and had you read the post and the earlier one you would not have posted its content at all. I thought it was a post that was posted just for the sake of posting, which is something that the Rules advise should not be done., It might have sent a member in the wrong direction which is why I disagreed. I could have deleted it as spam, but I do not over moderate. Peter.1 point

James, That's a fair point from David about insurance costs, but then I would hope that you will have thoroughly researched prices for your circumstances already. And that example you post at £3,290, yes, the car looks clean enough but there are things you can learn about both the car and the Dealer simply from the wording of the ad; not much mention of 'history' other than 'VOSA MOT history', that would suggest (to me anyway) that the service book is not fully stamped which would ring alarm bells. That would be the first thing to check over the phone before you even go and see it. A reputable Dealer would likely send you photos of the service book stamps if you ask nicely and sound interested. Hi Damon, When I was young I did a 36 week night school course on car maintenance. I learned how to de-coke a car engine, how to replace brake drums and shoes, the innermost working of Carburettors, chaining spark plugs and points, repairing a distributor, and more or less all of the electrical bits -- not many then --. I serviced our cars until company cars came along, & although I still serviced my wife car for years the changes in technology meant either a very complicated apprenticeship or paying a good mechanic to do it for you. I check the fluids, and things like air filters, but all these sensors are something different, so I leave it to the experts. Regards, Peter.1 point

I'm afraid my only advice here is to upgrade to an iPhone 6. Some good deals for them around now!1 point

If your confident with your garage carrying out the work for you at a reasonable cost then go for it every time imho. If your not confident or don't know what your looking for then it can save you loads in the long run.1 point

Sorry for late reply to Dafu Zander OP. A day after the light went off. I spoke JagLanc and they said monitor it, if it goes away fine, sometimes it happens if there's been a sudden jolt, which there was over a nasty pothole. Not returned yet. It's driving fine. Went to Rochester and back last weekend. It drove like a dream. i will take it for a wick look as soon as I can as the brake squeek has come back yesterday afternoon. Again, the has been on and off. Maybe a bit of dirt they said as it's quite muddy where I live, a wash will get rid of it. The wing mirrors are a bit out as I explained for reasons out of my hand...so a few ailments for the doc at nect visit.1 point

james its nice that you love our jag's but do you know what your insurance will be on a car like this ? as it could cost you more than the car... just a thought. my first car was a right shed, but it helped me build up my insurance.1 point

Hello everyone. I just thought i would share this experience with you all because i hope it will help some of you out and prevent this series of events coming your way. I recently was having issues with my 2.2D X Type where i would have flat spots under acceleration, kangerooing and simply lack of power. When this would happen my car would go into limp mode and i would have the flashing glow plug light come on. My first point of call was to look for a turbo leak. I had the usual split intercooler pipe coming from the EGR valve. After fitting a new one the fault still existed. So i now replaced the EGR valve in case this was the problem... nope. After some brainstorming i moved on to the MAF sensor, nice and easy job and only £25. Still no change. Clutching at hairs i now aimed for my MAP sensor as the symptoms fit with hard acceleration, turbo pressure gets high etc... After a real struggle i managed to fit a new MAP sensor and believe me that was a struggle there is next to no space down towards the bottom of the intercooler hose. Much to my disappointment this did not solve the problem either... only to find that after all of this work it was my Turbo Actuator that had failed on me! This is apparently a very common fault with the diesel x type, s type and mondeos! So to all if your car has the symptoms i described in the beginning of this post (loss of power, flat spots, hesitation, or kangerooing around 2 - 3000rpm) then i would try the turbo actuator first before putting yourself out for the rest of the work. The actuator is not a big job at all. Hope this is of some use to people!1 point

Hey Fabian, I got the Eibach kit about 6 months ago for my estate X-Type. Made a great improvement to the looks and handling of the car, with minimal ride discomfort. The springs can be fitted to the OEM shocks no problem but it would improve it if you got the sport/uprated shocks too. As my shocks needed replacing, I went for a set of uprated Bilstein units at the same time. One thing I found with the Eibach springs is they lowered the back end of the car around 20mm lower than the front (looked like a dog with worms). I presume that the Eibach kit is to fit all X-Type estates therefore models with heavier engines may lower more evenly at the front. I have a 2.0 Diesel engine which is I imagine lighter than say the V6. Not sure if this would be the same for a sedan. I got a litle fed up after a couple of months with the high front end and managed to obtain the front springs from Eibach that lowered it the same as the back (approx 35 mm all around). Looks great :-D Chris1 point
