  1. Unlike Peter, I have only been a moderator here of just over a year, but in that time, like him, I've only ever noticed one member who clearly hasn't read the rules or thinks themselves above mere petty limitations, even when they are mildly pointed in the right direction. That being the case, I believe that, for the greatest majority of our users, the location and content of the forum rules is just about right. Of course, I also firmly believe that almost everybody in this club doesn't actually need the rules because they conduct themselves, naturally, with the decorum one might expect. I am involved in moderation and admin in several (unrelated) fora and they are usually like the proverbial bear garden compared to here, for which, for what it might be worth, I'd like to thank club members

  2. Hi Jim, The Forum rules are there for all to see, and I see no reason to put them anywhere else. Other clubs do things in a different way and I have, in several years of being a moderator is this club, only ever had to remind one person to read the rules, from which I feel that there needs to be no alteration on how and where these Rules should be placed. New members do not want to be hit with a vast array of "legislation" when they join a club, and with only the odd exception, have members had a post deleted due to infringements of the rules. Members who join the club do appreciate that it is a friendly club and and appear rather to like the way it works. I would respectful suggest that if you don't agree with how this club operates that you devote more time to to the Jaguar related club that you run rather than the JOC. Regards, Peter.

  4. Hi Guys, The name is Richard, and I've just taken the leap and got a 2007 XK......300 miles in and I love it! Not like anything I've ever had before (Audi A4/6, BMW 3/5, Merc E, Boxster) - I will never get tired of that start up noise. Kids are torn between loving the V8 and being crippled in the rear, but I'm fine. Couple of questions, that I'm sure have been answered before; 1. I've removed Fuse 4 as the aerial is ridiculous, any smart mods to give me radio without looking like I'm in the world's biggest radio controlled car? 2. Any tips to get iPhone music through the Audio system? I'm based in Worthing, any other South Coast XK's out there?

  6. I agree- with a friendly club as this no one wants the rules pushed in front of them because they know how to conduct them self's with out that. There must be a reason why someone wants to push things close to breaking the rules all the time WHY.??? Lets keep this friendly and all enjoy the good nature of the club . Frank

  8. Hi Gary, Like other S type drivers I bought my car because I recognised what is, in my opinion, a future classic. When Sir William Lyons designed its predecessors his comment on it's launch was a simple one "Grace, Space and Pace". I have a late model S Type, which has the 2.7 Litre diesel engine, which is a fine engine and was designed as a joint venture between Ford and Peugeot and the main reason I chose a diesel was that the running costs were within the budget of a pensioner. The car is our only car nowadays and we do enjoy it both as a workhorse and a car to take us out for pleasurable days out and holidays. Other members are who drive the 3.0 litre V6 petrol find that this engine is one of the best they have driven. A lot comes down to personal choice. I also had an x type 2.5 litre V6 which, with it's all wheel drive, was both a good road holder as well as being quite fast. Like Paul [Raislin] and yourself I was a Rover Driver with my last car being a Rover Sterling with all the bess and whistles which I kept for 11 years and 122k. A little bit of homework I did before buying my S Type was in the specifications. I have the SE model but I found that the optional extras that were factory fitted to my car were quite high and that is something you should look out for, and if you make a list of what you want when you start the search. That might sound a bit like teaching grandmother to suck eggs, but it is worth doing. I hope this post is helpful, and I will also add that should you see a car advertised in an area far away, there might be a member in that area who will have a look at it and tell you what he/she thinks. Travelling 200 miles to look at a car that the previous owners glowingly described only find that it is poor condition is very disconcerting. Regards, Peter.

Hi Gary and welcome, great couple of cars you have there, my cousin has the MGZT with the mustang engine, awesome car, pretty sure your Freelander has the same engine as my X Type. you won't go wrong in acquiring a Jaguar, they stir the soul in us. 11. 20 inch wheels will give you the hardest ride due the lower profile of the tyres. A change to 19 inch or even 18 inch wheels & tyres would certainly make the ride a little softer but at quite a cost. I have used Dunlops on my 2007 XK and have the same on my current 2010 XKR. The XK was 19 inch and the XKR is 20 inch - Dunlops at both diameters have been very good. I usually get tyres from mytyres.co.uk - delivery is very good and their prices are very competitive - particularly if you want winter tyres (which I fully recommend). Have also heard that Michelin have been very good on the XK/XKR - but an annual mileage of only 5000 would probably not justify their premium price - but the do last very well. Hope this helps.
