  1. Hi everyone, I have been bothered about wind noise on my xtype 2009. After testing each door seals using an A4 sheet of paper and trying to pull it out with the door closed ( this was suggested by someone a while ago) It was quite easy to pull the paper through so I decided to adjust the striker plates. First I marked the existing position with short strips of masking tape, then slackened off the two torx screws, then carefully moved the plate towards the middle of the car, only about 2mm. Tightened the screws then tried the paper test again. This time it was not possible to withdraw the paper. Went for a test drive and all was a lot quieter. Job Done. Cheers Rod

  3. Thanks for the advice Pete, I'm minded to check a few cars out which are local to me and abide by that well known rule never buy the first one you see? I'll also look through the various topics on here on what to look for, the good the bad and indifferent of the cars. I'm in no rush and plan on enjoying the whole process.

  5. Peter is not wrong, the engine is (very) largely Ford, although the Jag got VVT which I don't think the Ford's did. Also Mazda, Porche and Cosworth had a hand in it's development, and IMHO, it's one of the best engines I've come across, a real cracker. I think your mate is confusing the X and S Types, the X was on a Mondeo chassis and uses a lot of Mondeo parts with a transverse engine, the S uses the Jag / Ford DEW platform (Lincoln, Thunderbird etc), used on the XF until last year, and an inline engine, so definitely not a Mondeo. I can help re the gearbox, as I have a manual

  6. Hi Tim, The guy at work must not be aware that a lot of advanced technology went into designing the S Type chassis in Detroit - it is a Lincoln chassis. The engine is a Ford. Car manufactures use engines to suit the cars they design, which is why the Rolls Royce used a Buick engine from 1946 until BMW bought them. You can tell what gearbox it is from the "J" gate manual side left. If it has a 4 3 2 1 sequence it ought to be a 5 speed Ford gear box. Regards Peter.

  7. Welcome to the club, Damon. The S type, described by the designer of the M1 and the Mk 11, Sir William Lyons as having Grace, Space and Pace. Absolutely true -- you enjoyed the grace and space today -- and it won't be long before you enjoy the pace! Great Car, and I hope you enjoy both the car and the club. Some owners like to put a photo on the site, but it is not compulsory! Regards, Peter.
